I also dig how the silks turned out to be golden-yellow, which stands out very nicely against that finish. Also, good call on the Super 55's. I have yet to try them out on a J/J config (I use one for my P/J build), so please tell the collective "WE" how they work out with the tapewounds, 'kay? Inquiring minds want to know!

Well, I've been using the Super 55's for awhile now in my '66 trib J and love them. (w/LaBella flats) I have a set of Lindy Fralin split-coils in another (active) J that I really like so when I heard the Fenders were good I got a set and they did not disappoint! I'm told what's out there for sale is all that's available - that Fender discontinued them for whatever reason. You can still find individual's and sets on eBay, which is where I got both sets. I feel like until they do something 'better' these pu's are the real deal.

Well, I've been using the Super 55's for awhile now in my '66 trib J and love them. I can only assume they wanted to steer people more towards the "Noiseless" and "N3" pickups.

I have a full, Jazz set just waiting to go into some future project or upgrade. I could even split them…no pun intended …between one of my Squier Standards (neck pup, obviously) and keep the bridge pup for another, potential P/J. So yeah, in light of their discontinuation, even though I'm not using them right now, I'm not just gonna sell them off willy-nilly.

A local instructor of mine had a Jazz Plus. Specifically, it was the one with that supah-kewl blueish/green-ish/grey-ish burst finish. He's primarily a guitar instructor, but he told he how he saw that JB-Plus, tried it out and took it home under the header of "Well, I could use a bass in my studio, and this one's great!" (He also teaches piano and drums, all out of a little studio he built in his basement…really nice and professional setup for lessons and recordings.)

I own a '93 J+ and it is a really well made Fender bass. Having owned a few Kubicki Factors - the J+ sounds just like one, as it has the Fender 9v version of his mighty 18v preamp. (I actually prefer the 9v pre) Only drawback is a bit of hum with the highs, but it has that distinct 80's-bass-up-front sound that only Kubicki Factors had. I'm toying with the idea of using the Lace Sensors in the Blue-J and installing the Super 55's in the J+.

After ordering the (2 neck Super 55's on Monday, the seller informed me today they actually only had 1 and confirmed that this model was out of production so there's no more to be had (from them anyway). I quickly checked eBay and luckily found another seller who had them and ordered 2 - for a bit less! (5 bucks less- I like when that happens!) So anyone interested in these pu's - they are going away soon. (the site I bought mine from now only has 1 neck pu left) I canceled the other order for a full refund - so there's still at least 2 neck Super 55's out there.

Here's mine, wearing D'Addario Tapewounds; no need for a number!

Still have this bass. The D'Addario Tapewounds were followed by LaBella Deep Talkin' Flats which were just recently replaced by D'Addario ProSteels. So far I'm loving the ProSteels!

Just picked this one up last Saturday. It is my 6th Squier bass and it is actually from India. 1989 Squier II Precision bass.

You know what I don't see on the used market very often (especially in pawn shops)? Standard series basses. I run across the Affinitys a lot, some times I see the VM's, Never see the CV's in the pawn shops. Every once in a while I will see a Standard. IMHO, the Standards that were out just before the VM's were introduced are some of the hidden gems in the Squier line. I still kick myself for not grabbing one of the black and chrome P Bass Specials when you could get them new for cheap.

From left to right, I got them via eBay, Guitar Center's used database and Craigslist (using SearchTempest.com to look for instruments far from my neck of the woods). They are indeed out there to be found, but you need to be vigilant, almost tenacious, and just a bit lucky.

Your Squiers are what prompted me to mention them. I know they are out there but in my experience with pawn shopping, craigslisting and ebaying, I'm just saying the Standards have become the rare birds. Most of the Squier Strats I find are the SE strats that come from the "Strat packs" and most of the basses I find are the Affinitys. I see Standard Strats more than I see Standards in the basses. I have the black and chrome Standard Strat and would love to have the entire set of B&C instruments like Malak has done with the ones he has, but there are two Strats, one Tele and the P Bass Special, I don't think they did a B&C Jazz but I could be wrong.

Nice - so what year were these made? Are the J pu's the same width? 1.5" deep body? Is the J stock? And finally, where were they made? Like the Fender American Standard, it looks like the Standard Series Squier went through a few varieties over time.

I wasn't aware of this model/line. I found this (new strat) on a search for sale, so they are still made I guess.

Hello, first post.

I just pulled the trigger on a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass in Fiesta Red. I won't get it for another week as the seller is traveling and that delay is giving me a bit of buyer's remorse...thinking I should have bought a used MIM(w/upgraded pickups) or MIA P. I figured that this might be the place to be reassured.

I own a 2009 MIM Fender Jazz Bass (FSR Natural Finish) w/ Fender Custom Shop 60s Pickups. I love that bass, but I have always wanted a bit more of that warmer mellower R&B P-Bass sound.

How does the CV 60s P stack up?

Sorry it took so long to post. I received the bass. Very impressed with the look and feel. I have demo'd a couple MIA precisions at guitar center and believe that this is a very reasonable facsimile. Frankly, part of me prefers it particularly the neck. It feels great, I like the tint and rosewood fretboard/vintage frets. However, I may sand the neck a bit to reduce the gloss.

The stock pickups sound very good, but I swapped in Fender Originals and strung it with LaBella Deep Talkin Flats (Jamerson Set). Now we are talkin...

My FrankenSquier - VM Jazz neck with VM Precision body. Added bridge cover and tort pick guard. Kill switch was added by the previous owner (a fellow TBer).
