What 3 string tree is that?

Thats what volume pedals are for

Regular volume pedals do not increase volume. If they are combined with an effects pedal they might because there is an active preamp there. So the pickups with low output would still have that same low output with a (non-active) volume pedal maxed out.

Thanks for pointing me in right direction. I've found some US sources for it. Question: How is the casting? From the pics I've seen from vendors, it looks a little "rough and ready". Any concerns with sharp edges or string binding?

The (many) ones I bought and use all are perfectly smooth and functional. I can't imagine why the major brands still stick to the silly little disc string retainer.

If it would look all slick and shiny as if it came from a jeweler, with an 'F' engraved in it, it would probably go for $40.

Picked this up locally today for a crazy good price. Original run CV Fiesta Red P. I gladly paid his asking ($375), and was even happier when I discovered it had upgraded Hipshot tuners.

For being almost 15 years old, it’s super clean and in fantastic shape.

QUESTION FOR EARLY 80'S JAPANESE SQUIER OWNERS:

Are most of the screws and such done in standard or metric? I need to replace my vintage truss rod nut (at the base of the neck, turns with a flatblade screwdriver) for my '83 Squier P bass, and want to be sure I don't order something that's just close enough to really ruin the threads...

I can’t find spec info on the ‘83 P. Since you can remove the nut your best bet is take to an Ace hardware (if possible) as they have physical thread pitch checker.

Thanks! I'm considering putting on a set of TI flats to complete the Pino vibe. I just sold my CS Pino, and despite it being a fantastic instrument, it is not 10 times better than this CV.

I've owned everything from Squiers to boutiques (Lakland, FCS, etc.) Nothing wrong with any of them, but I do understand that with boutiques, the money is going towards things like exotic woods, detailed relic treatments, finish/color options, and a more hands-on build process. If players want to own boutiques and can afford them, more power to them. But after owning both, I've found that the returns seem to diminish after a certain price point.

When I first got my CS Pino, I thought "this is nice, but is this it?" For me, it wasn't worth 10x the price of the CV. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me, though. And that's fine.

(That's also because I'm a curious-kinda guy.) Is that the original pickup? If not, what is it? Is it a newer bass whose look has been created, or are all the relics the real deal? ...or is it some of both? What's under the bridge cover besides the bridge? Stuff like that. BTW, that is a very cool bass!

I bought the bass from the TB classifieds a couple of years ago because it had the “Pino” vibe.
It sounded good, believe it or not I haven’t even looked under the pickguard, no reason to,
but it had a j style neck, I replaced it with the precision neck. I also had a Wilkinson bridge laying around, so I installed it. A set of LaBella flats too.
I did the relic job myself LOL.
It just has a good organic tone that sits good in a mix.

How I envy your courage!! I have a pair of Squier Jazz basses that I bought new. They both just scream out to have relics created on them. One is a 40th Anniversary Jazz and the other is a more recently purchased Paranormal '54 Jazz (pictured together below). They'd both be perfect for relics like you've created, but I just don't have the courage to do it.

They'd both be perfect for relics like you've created, but I just don't have the courage to do it.

I bought this bass specifically as a relic project.
The fact that it sounded good was a huge plus. Just luck really.
