I bought this one yesterday!

I spent hours at the guitar shop here in Italy comparing this bass to a Cort, an American Fender! It's a really good bass!

So, I've had my Squier Standard Jazz as my only bass for the last 10 years It was built circa 1996. It's unique in the fact that it has a one piece pickguard instead of having a seperate control plate.

I just got an Affinity Pbass UPS yesterday. It was set up really well, so well it makes my Jazz very aparent that it needs a good setup. The only gripe I got about it is the tuners, they are closed and are really small. It makes my Jazz seem like the tuners are industrial strength. Also, the bridge looks wimpy also. The tone is killer. It definantly adds another demension.

What should I use to replace wimpy machine heads and bridge? Links are appreciated.

Forgot to mention, these are completely stock Squier basses and I love them. I've had the jazz for about 10 years and I just won the P from Ebay a couple of days ago. I had some extra stickers laying around and booya, rockin bass #2. Anyone in Colo Springs that can help me drill out my peg holes so I can put some better machine heads in the P? Well, seeya.

Just got a pickguard in for my affinity 5. They said that squiers and american models are different, besides the slighest sanding where the control plate is, it was fine. One of the holes is off (right side of neck), rest were on.

I got fralin single coils (had them, why I got the bass) and the audere jz3b on it. I bought it from Brent who relics basses, he took off the squier logo and put the fender on, I kind of want to go back to the squier now. This thing rocks in no small way.

My old Squire Bronco with the full size tuners, Seymour Duncan Hotrails wired straight to the jack. Shortscale? Yep
Rock Hard? Yep. Still get's a lot of play time. Plus it's my only bass with a hard case, so when the phone rings it's usually what I grab to run out the door to jam. Oh yea, I also play with a pick ALL the time. Flamesuit is on, fire away.

I'm new here, but can I still join? If so here is my Squire Black and Chrome Special Edition p/j bass. This is the first instrument I ever bought and that was only last year. Dosn't get as much use ever since I bought my Cort, but I did use it for some recording the other day.

I am in the process of hot-rodding this so please forgive the current condition. I am turning what was a p-bass into a J/P/J with an audere 3ZB pre (with a 5Z switch instead of the normal 3-way) with 4 band eq. I am going to have to install 2 3-way switches to get all the pickup selecting how i want it and I am getting a pickguard blank and making a custom pickguard myself If you look close you can see the outline that I am going to use). I am just having trouble deciding what color for the body/pickguard. I am leaning toward a dark blue body/cream pickguard (maybe pearloid) or classic white/off white with a tort guard. Any suggestions?

The pups are model J's and a reverend P (8.6 ohm) and I have a '57 RI P on the way as we speak.

Thanks to this thread and others regarding these basses, I just got my Vintage Modified P. Wow. I never thought I'd be a "Fender" guy but this really is a nice instrument. Sure it doesn't have the finish of an instrument 5 times it's price, but it still looks, feels and sounds very good. I'm pretty tempted to run out and get a Vintage Modified 70's Jazz now too.

Here's mine.This Squier Pbass special was a Black Metallic, I stripped it which I don't recommend. I found a layer of plastic resin under the multiple coats of paint. The plastic resin was really hard to remove, I used a porpane blow torch used for copper plumbing which I also do not recommend. Still I'm happy with the result. I stained it with a 50/50 dilution of Sunflower oil and Walnut oil.

Man the basses keep getting better as this thread gets older.

I'm about to "upgrade" my Squier Standard's rosewood neck for a Mighty Mite maple one. Hope the damn thing fits!

I'll post pics if I haven't already thrown it out the window by then.
