Hey, I'd like to join the Squier Club. I went to a wedding in Nashville and came home with an Arctic White Sonic Bronco. The stock pickup has been swapped out for an OriPure PB5 Alnico V Rail Humbucker and the 1uf cap for a .22uf cap. It sounds great, just need to fix some fret buzz.

Appropriate, since it looks like what my wife would call a "wedding band" instrument.

As for me? I'd say it's just one mirrored pickguard away from landing in some serious "Nile Rodgers" territory!

If there is a prize for the bass that's been modded the most often, My Paranormal 54 Jazz Bass wins! I've changed pickups twice--DiMarzio Jazz 60s the first change, Wilkinson M-series the second. (The Wilkinson M-series sound better IMO.) I changed out the bridge for a Fender Hi-Mass. I changed the tuners to G&L Ultralites. I installed a master volume on the top horn. I installed an active EQ. I swapped it back to stock (passive). I changed the pickguard. Now I've installed a different active EQ. I removed the master volume. I now have the pickups wired to a single volume control that is also a push / push switch, which I use to run the pickups in parallel or series. I'm using an EMG BTC Control 2-band concentric active EQ. Please, God, let this be the last mod! I'm getting tired. But the bass is finally to the point where I believe I'm getting the most out of it that I can. I sure do love it. I'm planning to take it to a gig in the next state over later this week.

Please, God, let this be the last mod! I'm getting tired. But the bass is finally to the point where I believe I'm getting the most out of it that I can. I sure do love it.

Yes, indeed. When I was in early "middle age," an older man told me it was important for a man to have a hobby that enabled him to work with his hands. The sense of accomplishment means something. Now that I'm older than that "older man" was at the time. I've found that to be true.

Thanks! I won't go into a lot of non-Squier, thread-derailing details since it is radically different now, but I will post this pic which is closest to it's current incarnation. (Lose the blocks, move the neck pup closer to the bridge, give it a DiMarzio Sixties P/J set and an Audere preamp and then we're closer to the "right now".)

My first Squier. Pick it up in a few days. Made in Japan (By FujiGen 1993-94) (From Squier Wiki). $350 USD. All original according to the previous owner of 15 years. Not sure about the colour being original? Anyone?

Fiesta Red - it could be original from Japan. They were spot-on about US vintage then.

All Fender guitars & basses were made in Japen in the early-mid '80s, were of high quality and were accurate Fender history renditions. Once Fender employees bought the brand back from CBS in '85, there was an eventual transition back to US made Fenders but the MIJ concept evolved and is universally considered a very high quality Fender guitar/bass. (both Made in Japan & Crafted in Japan). Definitely keep it 'as-is' and rock it!

Always - but new strings will always sound brighter/different, so they need to be broken-in to reveal how they actually sound. Brand new strings can work when recording, but I've done both ways (broken-in & new) with equally good results.

Now, I'm wondering what percentage of us have owned some kind of Squier they regret letting go, either because of circumstances beyond our control or due to an attack of "the dumb".

I know I do…both because I was still learning my way around different basses, but mainly because I simply didn't know better. Neither are great excuses, but it's probably fair to say; right or wrong, we've all been there at one point. Still, the shame of "ignorance" and "folly" burns most mightily!

Hey Howie, not mine....but it didn't come with the covers, nor was it drilled for them. Hope you like your new acquisition?

Not sure if this counts, but I put RS66s on a Squier P bass which I've now lent to my great-nephew. I so want to play it and hear that sound!

Interesting. All the ones I've viewed online have the drilled holes. Ah well, the main thing is, if it's only the pickguard and cover/s that aren't original, that's not a biggie for me.

I pick it up on Thursday when I'm passing through Auckland. Will let you know then

I've never seen an MIJ Squier from the 90s in that color. Maybe a refin?
