Squier Owners Club

I also have this one laying around but i'm not 100% certain if it counts. The decal reads Fender in large then Squier series in small print. Anybody know what's up with this...?

That would make it an early eighties Squier. There were runs made in Japan and the US as well featuring that logo.

I just joined yesterday!
I purchased a P Bass Special Edition...I already pulled the mirrored pickguard off and replaced it with a black one...much better. I ordered a Badass II bridge and black knobs, as soon as those arrive I'll post the pic.

There are three books that are really helpful with this type of information: The Fender Bass by Klaus Blasquiz; The Fender Bass: An Illustrated History by Black and Molinaro; How the Fender Bass Changed the World by Jim Roberts. The first two are published by Hal Leonard and the latter by Bass Player. You can probably get them at Bassbooks.com (great service there BTW).

That's actually a weird one. The original Squiers with the Fender logo were dicontinued very early, then they changed to the usual Squier logo. What throws me is the "made in Mexico". All Squier's with the large Fender logo were made in Japan, not Mexico, as far as I know. Check out the Squier JV pages here: Link Removed

I just checked up the serial number with this website ( Invalid Link Removed )and it dates it as being made in 1994-1995.

I'm not the original owner but I actually know the guy who bought it for the original owner and he told me that he got it in 1995 from a music store in Toronto, Ontario.

So does that make it a fender or a squier? the bass plays great and I couldn't care less what it is, I've just been wondering about it.

As of tomorrow evening, add me to the club. I bought a Deluxe Active 5 string Jazz (the pic of the all white bass seen several times in this thread). I'll post pics tomorrow night.

Yup, add me too, I got the VM arriving tomorrow.

DW -- how do you like the Active 5? I was inches away from buying one.

No idea, Steve, that's a real confusing bass you have there! Obviously if you enjoy it, that's all that matters, but I have never seen one like this with a Fender logo apart from those 1982 Squier JV's.
