Squier Owners Club

My Squire P bass (next to my SX). I love this bass...its just a plain ole affinity series, but plays sooooo nicely. I put on a black pickguard (originally white). Mods to come soon to it.

I have confessed a few times to having a Squier Precision Plus, or whatever they call the model with a P-body, J-neck, and PJ p'ups.

I got it for my son to learn on, back in 2000 or '01. He lost in terest after a month or two. It has been my backup backup bass and outdoor gig bass since he abandoned it. Now my daughter is getting old enough that I hope she'll take up playing instrumental music. So I decided I would fix it up and give it to her. If she stays with bass, it's hers. If she doesn't, it's mine again and it's fixed up. :hyper:

I've already decided to put on the Schaller Roller bridge that used to be on my fretless Jazz. I'm also replacing the p'ups with a DiMarzio Model P and Model J. I just now finally decided on the pickguard it would get. My daughter's favorite color combination is black and Barbie pink. She has several articles of clothing with that particular color scheme, so why not a bass? It's going to have the pink tie-dye pickguard from WD Music.

If she doesn't stick with bass, I'll switch to one I like on it and get a new neck (I'm thinking Moses Graphite.) for it.

That is sooo yum. What does it sound like?
It's very bassy sounding, as you might expect given the pickup location. It's unmistakably a p-bass, just a thumpier version. It's as different from the split coil p-bass sound as a single-coil p-bass is...yet you can tell all three are p-basses. This is through an Ampeg V4 with 2x15. It has a little more definition through my Workingman's 10. In about 2 hours I go to rehearsal and will try it through my SVT 4 Pro with two 4x10 cabs -- hoping that set up gives it a little more articulation.

The stainless steel strings that come on it are really affecting the tone right now too. I won't really know how it sounds until I get my regular strings on it, mess around with pickup height, and try it through all my amps a lot more.

Thanks for the review. Tell us more after additional play and string change.
