Hello all Squier fans,
I got my Squier VM Jazz Bass this summer and I've been loving it. Put nice D'Addario Nickel roundwound strings on it, adjust the action, truss-rod, intonation and with a nice leather strap I'm set.
How do I join this club? This is my first one

Those of you who have modded your Squier's, did you replace the pots? My Classic Vibe jazz has the small pots. I switched out the pickups for 75 RI pickups but didn't bother to do anything with the pots. Would changing them, or even the cap make a difference?
Yes, I have changed them and it made a HUGE difference. The bass now sounds way more open. I've equipped the bass with CTS pots, which were a bit bigger than the original ones but if you press really hard the knobs will fit over them

Are the CTS pots the bigger ones? The little pots that are in there are 250's. That's why I didn't know if would make a difference.
I want new pots in mine..
...but anyways, I forgot to tell you guys. In my sig, on the Alison Tuesday link, if you go to the Music headline, and listen to the demo tracks, theyre all recorded with my Squier. Now the, the tracks themselves are pretty...iffy... as our organist quit the band and purposefully messed up the tracks, as he recorded them for us, but they give a good tone of my Squier.
Craziest thing, I recorded the same day I pick the bass up... from a yard sale... without a setup and stock strings!

Ok, here it is, in all of its glory! The first new bass I ever purchased, a satin gray metallic Squier Standard complete with stickers and ready to be cleaned up. Do we still get numbers?

Picked up a Classic Vibes 50s Preci on ebay. It was a great deal and I couldnt say no. Now I'm hooked by this Squier and looking for an CV 60s also.
The only bad thing on mine is a weak input jack. Think I have to replace it with these football shaped things. Everything else ist very good. Specially the beautiful neck in flamed maple.

Now got Daddario Chromes (100-45) on my VM Jazz for about 3 weeks.
It sounds incredibly good!
I only can recommend it to everyone who's searching for a motownish vintage jazz bass tone....

I had the same problem with the input jack. I fixed it twice then got an Electrosocket from www.stewmac.com, $8.63. No more problems and it only took about 2 minutes to install.
AHHHH! I cringe every time I see such a photo! All I can imagine is the bass slowly tipping over and spiking the heastock into the floor.....AHHH!
Support your bass properly and you will never have to see that in person.

That is a beauty of a bass. I played one of them in a local shop and I didn't want to put it down! Felt great & sounded great, I still do not know why I didn't buy it...
