Hi,

My first post on this forum :

After reading all the positive "buzz " around the Squier jazz bass Vintage Modified ... I dedided to grab one this weekend ...

Its my first bass ever, im guitarist and my god .... Nothing to say except " WOW " great sound, great look, great price !

I play it with line6 podfarm and headphone ... awsome tone !

313 $ canadian bucks ..... new ! :smug:

Well, I took the pickguard off the CV and replaced it with a Fender 62RI Tort. I just have to add a screw in the center of the PG and it will be amazing. It looks so much better than the original!

Curiously, the only weak point to the fit is a slight gap where the PG meets the control plate. Ah well, ya can't see it from 2 feet away, though I will most likely fit the guard to to the control plate and relocate the control plate for a clean look.

I also like the way the extra holes (tug bar and ashtray pre drills in the PG) add some bit of character. I will put black tape under the holes to keep the Oly white from showing through...and FWIW I still stand by that the Squier CV pickguard looks cartoonish next to a good tort guard. (the 2nd pic).

I thought that the original one look pretty good until I saw that. :D It really looks great!

I'm still on the fence with it myself. I am gonna leave the 62 on the Squier for now and wait to see whats up with what when I get to putting the pickguard on the new project. I have 3 tort PG's here now, I hardly think I need to buy another.

Replacement all parts neck, the original neck is being traded for a maple/ebony neck. The Allparts neck will then go on the Squier.

I took the two Squiers I'd posted earlier- the fretless burst and the B/W Affinity- and grafted this one:

I'm way into the whole 'stealth' thing now- I don't really want to be seen, I just want to make the sound! This one has a Mighty-Mite neck and an old Duncan P-p'up, and sounds pretty good.

Here is my Squire Classic Vibe 50's bass. I have to agree they are a great value. I got this one from a neighborhood music store and it was set up by the owner and it plays very well. Great sound too. The single coil pick-up has about the same amount of buzz as my Rickenbacker 4003. You may notice the jack has been changed. The jack plate was the best $7 I've spent in a while.:cool:

Just got my grubbies on a used Vintage Modified Jazz...lovin' the 70's retro thang. Great tone coming from those Duncan-design pups.

Has anyone replaced the pickguard on one of these with black or white pearloid? If so, I'd love to see some pix before I go about trying to get one.

The pots are a bit scratchy, so I'll likely go for the CTS pot and capacitor upgrade before long. I'll play it for a while and decide whether or not I want to upgrade the bridge to a Badass II or Gotoh 201.

I'd stick with the replacement. Although it doesn't look like a 'real' celluloid tort PG it at least doesn't look like a bad attempt at emulating one. The very "flat" looking (no depth) plastic pickguards that are really nothing but a painted on "marbled" faux finish don't look very attractive IMHO.
