Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

I personally don't see any reason for changing styles of tuners. Lightweight or not, they don't make much difference to me and I hate to see empty or blank holes in anything - at least ones that you cannot cover with the new gear.

I'm not talking about resale value here either, as that's never been a reason to buy a bass or amp or cab in my mind. If I buy it, it's because I like it and want to keep it.

I also wrinkle at people who say things like: "If I mess it up, I can just sell it". That seems immoral to me.

Great thread, although I really haven't had the heart to really get at my 60s CV FR Precision.

High density foam under the pickups to stop movement (which I found too distracting), and a Switchcraft jack.
Set of 45-105 D'Addario Chromes. Remove tug bar.

Scares the **** out of me. This bass shouldn't sound, feel, play this good.

Probably the wrong thread to say this, but I don't think modding is the answer on my CV. It's pretty cool as is (with my 'enhancements').

Has anyone gotten a really nice neck for their VM fretless and sort of turned it into a regular jazz bass? I don't need a 4 string fretless anymore as I have a better 6 string, but want a jazz. Not sure if I should get one or just upgrade the VM. Has anyone done this and ended up happy?

Take the jump into a Classic Vibe Jazz '60s and you will have found Squier heaven in basswood and rosewood.

iJazz - Because when you Jazz, you rock!

Hello everyone! This is kinda weird to ask, but I figured this was the right place to do so:

Will a warmoth body fit the CV necks and other parts, such as pickguard and plates?

I might get a CV 50s p and I was considering swapping the body, but I think the heel of the neck has a more "squared" shape but I might as well be wrong, any input on this matter is helpful :D

The 50s p neck is dead square.

Unless you're going to use no pickguard, you can get away with it if you plan it well enough.

I put a square heeled neck into a round heeled pocket and just used the correct PG and it's hiding the difference completely.

I did some SLIGHT nibbling to the pocket just to get the corners of the neck to allow the neck to meet the correct dimension from the centerline of the bridge, but it won't preclude installing a rounded hell neck in the future either if the correct PG is then also used.

Maybe that'll help you a little.

that helps! But still, I'm thinking about it's integrity, wouldn't the gap between neck and body affect it?...also I'm actually thinking about getting a nice body and go pickguard-less so I would prefer a snug fit, might end up doing a regular p bass :/ since this is starting to look improbable :c

There are no musical qualities lost or gained by a tight pocket - and quite frankly I've found that gaff to be an old wives' tale.

It helps that the neck screws/bolts are tight and there is some certain aesthetics to the idea that a gap is an eyesore - but really even though many people will stand on the idea that a loose fit is a quality problem - and it's likely only that - it isn't going to deteriorate the sound transmission at all.

I think everybody would like a Stradivarius - but reality sets in and although that's a nice idea --- well.

If the neck actually seats on a flat surface as a good match to it's own surface, then that's where any 'transfer' of vibrations will make the trip. A shim under the neck blows that theory all to Hades though. So there's that to consider.

I - however, find that idea as unnecessary agonizing over fly specks. In all practicality, make the neck as snug as is do-able, but don't lose sleep over it.

Make it look good, play it and enjoy it. :bassist:

Yeah, I had an SX Ursa 1, I noticed when I was changing out the pickguard that although the sides and bottom of the neck pocket were nice and tight to the neck, the very end was very sloppily done with an obvious and very ugly badly routed gap. Fortunately, as Joe showed with his bass, the pickguard completely covered this, and in the long run, as everywhere else in the pocket was tight, the gap at the end seemed to have absolutely no ill effects on tone or sustain. Looked good, sounded fine.

As you can see, the gap at the end pocket is completely hidden. I just wish I had a pic of the uncovered pocket to show how badly routed the end was.

Ugh sorry....stupid iPod sent my previous message before I finished. Anyway, I recall hearing people say the pickup cover they ordered is too low and touches the strings. Does anybody know if there's a difference between stock Fender covers and Squier covers? Will they be drop-on parts if I go with the Fenders?

The ONLY time I've seen height differences is when they get shipped or mailed and get flattened.

FWIW: Fender and Squier uses --- if not the same part number --- at least the same dimensions on the covers.

The true distance between the screws (on center) for a Precision is 4.75", and on the Jazz it is 4.5".

This was doubly confirmed by when I bought Fender-Gear Head replacement pickguards that had the holes already predrilled into them, plus my own astute observation(s).

I have an Affinity P-Bass in for repair, but it needs a new pickguard. Where can I get a 14-hole Precision pickguard (for a bass from 2000, serial number starts with CY00) that fits without having to drill extra holes?
