Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

My guess was that either the wood in the SX neck just gave way a bit due to the Squier screws being a hait too thin for the holes, or.....yeah I can't think of anything else LOL

And I need to reread my posts when I am at work and without the benefit of spell check!

Thanks Joe, I will stop at GC or Smash on the way home and grab a pack of screws.

jim

Just to come round on this, I bought a 4 pack of screws from Lowe's that worked perfectly. They are stainless steel size 10 x 1 3/4", $1.99! :)

I have a 70's VMJ. I replaced the pickups with Model J's, and added 2 on-on switches so I can switch between series and parallel.

I had a Gotoh 201 installed, but my OCD got the better of me due to string spacing over the bridge pickup, so I put back on the original bridge (same string spacing issues) and decided to replace the saddles with some threaded ones. Loving it now.

I have the fretless VMJ and am planning the same mods except for the switches.

That's too funny. I have the same bass and installed the same pickups. How do you like those pickups on the bass? Eventually i plan on throwing in a Badass ii bridge and switching out the pots and tuners. I'm pretty sure the pots in the bass now are 250k, so I'm looking for 500k. And the tuners in mine are pretty solid, but if there's better ones out there i may just go with those

Need a little cross vintage modified help.

I have a VM Jaguar Bass Special (Non stacked pots,) and would very much like to replace the neck. What are the odds that the neck from the other VM Jag (WITH concentric knobs....blocked neck.....painted headstock) will be a direct fit replacement?

The only reason I don't assume that it is, is that I know from trial that the neck from a VM Precision or a VM Fretless Jazz do NOT fit. They heel is wider on the latter two.

Help!

Cool thread, wish I had found it before replacing the pick guard on my daughter's 2002 Squier Precision. Squiers that old require a 14 hole pick guard, and I could only find them from Mighty Mite, but it didn't match up perfectly. I had to do some cutting into the pick guard, move pickups and route into the cavity of the guitar some. IDK, I might have been better off with a 13 hole guard.

So, I'm sure this has been asked a million times throughout this thread but...

Anyone know who makes a pickgaurd that fits a Squier Affinity Jazz? I'm looking for a red tort gaurd for it...mmm...black n' tort....drool...

Currently upgrading my new Jaguar VM Special. I have installed a Leo Quan Badass II Bridge and am waiting on a Duncan Quarter pounder for the P bass pickup replacement. Don't use the Jazz pickup much but may upgrade that one too. Best bang for the bck for me is the bridge. Before it was kind of weak on sutain but with theat bridge, it totally changes the sound. Would like to get a different pickguard but don't know what would look good with the three tone burst finish. Thinking maybe a white pearl but spending $58 + sending my old pickguard out seems a bit much. IMHO this is the best deal out there for the Squier bass' i paid like $170 for mine.

I have a made-in-China Squier Affinity Jazz bass I just bought for $40. I had previously bought a set of Dimarzio Model J pickups, but my other Jazz bass sounds too good to change pickups. So I bought this to mod with the pickups etc. It has the cruddy closed tuners on it. I would like to replace them, and realize I will be drilling out the bushing hole, and probably have to fill and re-drill screw holes. But, I want to make sure what I buy will physically fit without grinding. The ones I am looking at are Hipshot Ultralites in 1/2", Gotoh open gear or Grover Open gear. Does anyone have any experience with these on this particular model, or maybe know something else that will work?

Not sure about the tuner issue BUT both pickup routes on the Affinity basses are neck sized, generally the bridge Pickup on dimarzios are a bit longer, it'll fit but you gotta give it some "love" and it'll be hard to adjust. I found out the hardway a few weeks ago with mine.

Still wondering about this.

I sent a note to Hipshot awhile back and I was told this....

Thank you for your question about our Bass Tuners.
We have indeed been asked this question alot!
The tuners you will need for your bass are our HB1 tuners with the BT1 being the Xtender. The tuners and Xtender will be a direct replacement for your stock tuners so no modifications should be needed.

I was wary because they state Music Man or G & L style...but it worked and has been working for the last couple of years...no driling required

I've searched this whole thread and can't find what I'm after!

Is there a detuner / extender that would fit on a squier CV 60's precision without redrilling?

Yup, thats right on. I had one installed on my CV 60's and 50's Precision.

Good news everyone,

I've found a cheap black machinehead for the Vintage Modified Jazz. It's 100% drop-in; as you can see, it's identical to the stock ones. Screw holes lined up perfectly.

Only installed it this afternoon but initial impressions are good, the tuning seemed very stable when I adjusted it afterwards.

I realise that there is variation amongst this model, according to when it was manufactured. As to whether this is a universal fit for all VM Jazzes, I couldn't say. For what it's worth, it fitted mine like a glove.

If anyone's interested, I sourced them from a German shop, A.W.M. Guitars and Parts, through their Ebay store. It's around 8 Euros and you can buy them individually, as I did, to check that they fit before splashing out on a full set.

Hope this has been helpful for other people with blackout projects in mind. I'll post more pics when more parts have gone on and the job is done.
