Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

As a rule of thumb, are MIM necks generally compatible with VM Squier bodies?

Unsure about the VM but I just fitted a 1995 MIM Jazz neck onto my Squier CV Jazz, was a straightforward direct fit, pocket and screw holes.
The neck from the CV Jazz is now on my Squier P Bass Special, pocket fit is good but 2 of the holes were slightly out but I made it fit.

But the neck from the Squier P Special (which is a jazz profile neck) will in no way fit the MIM jazz body without alot of work.

I looked but could not find...sorry if it's been asked - I want to put a Hipshot Vintage style bridge on my VM Jazz. Anyone done this, and what were the results?
As long as you're taking about a 4 string with a 5 screw bridge, the 5 screw hipshot should be a direct fit. It's a GREAT bridge. I have one on a MIM P. I absolutely love the quick string change feature (you don't have to thread the whole string). Some have reported that on some basses, the G string saddle screw might be a tad short when setting intonation. Mines perfect, but it's about at the last couple threads. If you find it is short, I think there are longer screws available (and you could probably use one of your original saddles and its screw for that string in a pinch). Email Hipshot if you're uncertain.

I just bought a VM Squier Jaguar Bass and I love the sound it makes but I just can't jive with its listed 1.5" nut width. I have really big hands and my fingers trip on each other with this neck. I'm used to a 1.6" nut width. Does anyone know where I can buy/trade the neck for a wider nut neck? Cheapest is best. Thanks!

I'm gonna put up the neck for trade in the classifieds if anyone wants to trade. Maple fret board would look amazing but rosewood is fine. Thanks TB!

I got a good deal on a loaded VM fretless jazz body and put a mim p bass neck on it. Fit very easily. No problems at all. It wasn't the tightest neck/body joint around but only a really small gap. I fitted gotoh bridge, had to shim neck but got a really good setup out of it. Great bass now, looks good with the thicker neck and no pickguard! I kept the pickups in it, they sound good.

Hey fellas.

As much as I love everything about my amber VM Precision, I don't really think the amber body looks great on me unless I'm wearing black. (Shallow, I know but we do play in front of audiences, after all.)

I'm thinking of keeping the neck (which is incredible, by the way), electronics and hardware and swapping the body out for an Olympic white one. I've always loved the look of Olympic White, black 3-ply black pickguards and maple fingerboards. Searching ebay, Amazon, and the internetz, the best price I can find is the Squier Affinty series Precision.

Anybody know if the neck and all the other parts from the VM-P will fit onto the Affinity body without having to drill any new holes?

Confirmed that the Babicz FCH bridge will fit the Squier Affinity 5 string without modification. My reason for upgrading was because some of the height adjustment screws on the stock bridge were backing out, so why not go ahead and upgrade.

The string spacing is wider - an increase from 18mm to 19mm. It isn't really noticeable except for the G string.

I didn't think it would make that big of a difference but it did. Sustains to infinity and gives the bass a more piano like sound at least with the Fender noiseless pickups. I'm also able to get the action lower. It is strung with new DR neon whites with a lighter gauge 120 B string.

Will the screw holes and neck on any squier p bass neck fit on my jaguar? Specifically would this neck fit?

Not necessarily "any Squier". I bought a used Squier Standard P-Bass Special in the hopes I could put the neck onto a Mighty Mite body (basically, Fender-sized). I was able to mount the neck from a Squier Deluxe Jazz Active IV, the Standard P-Bass neck heel was too large to fit. I would've had to sand out the neck pocket to make it fit. I've also had problems putting Fender-sized hardware (pots, pickguards, pickups) onto Squier Standards.

Basically, I think the Standard line had deviated from the more commonplace Fender/Squier "blueprint" for many years. There seems to be a much higher number of successful "transplants" across the Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe lines.

Oh, and for the sake of the rest of the topic (and so the 'Search' function has a better chance of picking up this posting);

I recently added a Fender black/white/black pickguard meant for their American-made basses (Invalid Link Removed) onto a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz with a 99.5% perfect match. I only shave off 0.5% because one of the top screw holes was only slightly off-the-mark, but not enough to keep me from screwing it down. Yay! :D

I am currently working with an older MIK squier II body and the newer standard squier necks do not fit. the neck pocket is to narrow. So you would need to route out the pocket a bit as well as the portion of the PG that surrounds the neck pocket/heel of the neck.

Not sure if a set of fender vintage style p-bass pickups will mate with this pickguard? I sure hope so and I am going to find out.

I have routed out the neck pocket a bit and the squier neck now seems to line up fine. Once I screw on the plate ect..I'll know for sure.

I have to lacquer the neck first then I'll put it on and bolt it down. Will update when I cross that bridge.

I just finished up my P-bass/J bass hybrid partscaster bass. It has a late 80's MIK squier II body which needed some neck pocket routing to accept the VM jazz bass neck. The neck heal was to wide so I had to widen the neck pocket a slight bit. Not much, just a bit.

The neck was in rough shape when I got it ( purchased off this forum ) all the wear was to the back of the neck. I sanded down the back side of the headstock and sides and back of the neck and re-lacquered it in satin as this is a satin finish neck.

It has monster tone pickups with a varitone tone control. Pickups and varitone as well as full sized vol pot fit just fine in the control cavity. The neckplate is from a newer 20th anniversary squier. The necplate screws for the 20th anniversary were to long. Luckily I had some shorter neckplate screws from another p-bass squier that were perfect. Not sure if the longer screws were original squier p-bass screws or not but figure it is worth mentioning. The bridge and pickguard are original.

i picked up a Pro-Tone P/J for cheap a while back ,and i frigging love it, it plays awesome and is light as a feather, but the black finish is kind of boring. I know these things are supposedly solid ash, but does anyone know if i can expect a 2-3 piece body or am i probably looking at a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle if i strip it

Kind of an impulse purchase... Walked into Guitar Center only meaning to get a TRS cable, but walked out with this lady. Played it on a gig with my funk band only several hours later, and I think it's a keeper. Sounds quite good (band members were stunned when they heard it was only a $300 bass) and plays great.

Already thinking about making it a project bass though... I missed the active EQ on my main Jazz V, so I'm thinking about new pickups and a J-retro, doing a new (1-piece) pickguard for it, and we'll see from there.

Hmmm.
