Sorry if this was discussed in the other 18 pages of this thread, but where can we get parts like Ashtray covers, and pickguards for as VMJ 5 string?

This is what I did to my Vintage Modified Jazz last week.
Badass II bridge - fit in perfectly
Nordstrand NJ4SEs - fit in perfectly
Hipshot HB7 tuners with a drop D - fit in perfectly
John East Retro J preamp - the battery was a little tight for my liking so I routed out a battery box in the back.
This mutha sounds like a friggin' dream!
my new pickguard will be here from Warmouth this week and we'll see how that goes.

This may have been already discussed, but I couldn't find it: Does anyone have the part number for a fender replacement neck plate for a VM jazz?
I'll bump this thread asking for any references on the upgrades I want to make to this gorgeous Jazz I scored a while ago.
It's a Squier Standard Jazz Bass in Walnut satin

I'm thinking about the following changes:
I'm more inclined to go for aluminium rather than brass for the weight. This bass has the 5 screw fender bridge layout so I believe it will be a drop-in replacement. Can anyone confirm this?
- Hipshot A style bridge.
This bass has the bridge pickup of the same width as the neck one and I've also found that the bridge pickup route was made a bit off center towards the left (does this happen in other units/models? or was just mine? it can be seen in the picture) so trying to file the route in order to put a regular bridge pickup there may result in the strings even more misaligned with the polepieces than it is now. Here's hoping that the EMG pickups will handle this and make it sound and look better.
- EMG MJ set pickups.
Of course, going EMG here also means going active and I'm thinking about putting a battery box since I don't like the idea of having to take the pickguard or control plate often. Do you know what would be the best place for the battery box? I've seen most of basses put it in the middle-upper side of the bass but I was thinking of putting it in the lower right part of the back in order to have it near the control cavity to make the cable canals as short as possible but I don't really know if it has any other implications. Can anyone share some insight about this?
I'm really fond of this bass but it's deserving some serious upgrades and these seem the ones that will make the most out of it.
I have a VM Jazz Bass - really impressed with the bang for the buck. I can see the point of replacing the flimsy bridge, the not-100%-accurate tuners, the plastic nut and (maybe) the pots and cap, but it is possible to go a bit far: if you start replacing necks, pickups and everything, then surely you end up maybe having paid a bit too much for just a body? A bit like the old story of "my grandfather's axe"!
Personally, I bought this bass as something to play while away from my "real" basses, and because it has a really nice neck. I'm impressed enough to possibly want to keep it, I have an old Ibanez Accu-Cast B bridge lying around and some other bits and pieces with which I may upgrade it, but I wouldn't want to spend big bucks on it...
I have a VM Jazz, MIJ Fender Jaguar, MIM Fender Jazz and a Tradition B100 that all use the same identical steel bridge, where do you get "flimsy"?
Easy fix for the shifting saddles without getting a whole new bridge. Get Fender threaded saddles.
