Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

Other than the Hipshot HB7 tuners is there another drop in replacement? I want to get a set of black tuners but I don't want to spend too much. I bought a set of Mighty Mite tuners off Amazon ($40) but the screw holes were way off.

Has anyone tried the WD deluxe tuners?

I don't think the WD ones will fit, the screw holes will be out of alignment.

I used these, from a German ebay shop: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MM-Style-Bass-Tuners-Mechaniken-1-links-schwarz-/400295953811?pt=Allgemeines_Musikinstrumente_Zubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item5d337f8593

Lined up perfectly on my VM Jazz; all I needed to fit them was a screwdriver and hammer.

Does anyone know if the newer (non Duncan) VM Jazz's have a glossy finish on the necks? Particularly the CAR VM 70's J and VM '77? I think I have it narrowed down to either one of these or a JJ CV sig. I'll be replacing the pickups with Fender CS 60's and probably some mini 250k CTS pots.

Just saw black VM '77 Jazz in our local GC.
Yes.. The maple with pearloid neck is now gloss finished front and back as opposed to the original satin finish.

Thanks. Any idea if the 70's is now the same? The CAR J looks really sharp and wouldn't mind a gloss.

Our local GC is rather small and not very well stocked with basses. I did not see a CAR, but did have the natural VM '70's maple w/ black blocks. I think it was gloss too, but I didn't look closely at it. Check the spec's on Squier's website. It'll say for sure.

Thanks. It's solid. I've owned two, & although I haven't owned either longer than a year, they were very solid & no problems at all. One of the internet shopping gems at $99 shipped. However it takes a few weeks to arrive from China.

J necks too

Firm, glossy, light, hard as a rock. You'll need a drill for the neck bolts. Tuners were on the smaller side if I remember.

Just thought I'd share that I purchased the new CTS mini 250k pots and they dropped right into the control plate on my James Johnston no problem. I actually had full size CTS pots in there which also fit with zero modification to the plate, excepts for the first volume pot, which would have required removing some wood here:ImageUploadedByTalkBass1393544579.019883.jpg
As can be seen, the lip that the ground lug is attached to sticks out just enough to make full size pots a hassle.

I decided to use the CTS mini to counter this issue and have matching pots. When I initially used two full size CTS and one of the stock mini alpha, there was a very noticeable difference in the taper of the middle vol and tone pots. They went from nothing at about two thirds of the rotation, to full on when rolled up. This is what made me decide to go all mini. Since the Alpha pots have always felt to me like they could have a much broader sweep, I ditched them for CTS and am very happy:

Note that the rats nest wiring these come with is gone.

I also ditched the .068 cap for a .047 with a tighter tolerance range and stronger leads. I haven't had the chance to get a reading on these pups (if anyone has, let me know!) but I'm assuming they used a .068 either to tame what they perceived as overly bright pups, or because it was "close enough" to a .047 and that's what they had, so they just plopped them in there. Traditionally, Fender Jazz's used .047, so I gave it a try and its working out much better, allowing a bit more high end into the rolled off tone, which is my preferred setting. Also, I replaced the cheapo jack with a Switcraft and it was an obvious direct drop in.

Here's a shot of the mini CTS pots:

It's funny, but I was all set to swap these pups before I heard them. I now rank them as better than the Aero's I had set aside for them for the sole reason that they cop a very woody tone with the flats I use that is really hard to come by these days. Surpassed my expectations infinitely. If it ain't broke, I ain't fixin it.

Oh, and its DEAD quiet, even with a compressor and the horns on my GK rig engaged.

i picked up a Pro-Tone P/J for cheap a while back ,and i frigging love it, it plays awesome and is light as a feather, but the black finish is kind of boring. I know these things are supposedly solid ash, but does anyone know if i can expect a 2-3 piece body or am i probably looking at a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle if i strip it

You can probably expect anything from 1 piece ash to plywood, seriously. Pull the pickguard and control plate first; that will tell you.

Okay, I have a few questions. I have a white Squier vm Jaguar bass that I would like to black out. Thanks for any and all help!

1. I already have a set of black hipshot hb7s that used to be on a p bass that I want to throw on it. Problem is that the screw holes do not line up properly. They are off by such tiny amount. Any suggestions?
2. Would anyone know where to find a black control plate for the stacked knobs? Or maybe a different plate all together that would fit?
3. I tried throwing a black gotoh 201 bridge on it, but couldn't get the action low enough. Anyone have a suggestion for a black bent bridge for a replacement?
