Installation verdict? A definite upgrade in terms of tonal capacity of this base. Less brittle, more meaty, including a perceived midrange shift, which isn't surprising judging by the differences in pots. Gotta get a new cap in it, though. Then I think it's full voice will be heard.

Here is my Squier VM JB in company with his older cousin...
Yes, it has vintage Fender machine heads (fits perfect on the back of the headstock)... black knobs... "aged" headstock... F '70 logo... flatwound strings...
I'm very happy with that saw!
Interesting... this Sq VM JB 2007. has 2 piece body... and this Strat 1978. has 5 (FIVE!!!) piece body...

Real pitty that Sqiuer not trying to produce VM Pbass '70 fretless with maple or rosewood fb...

Have not got a picture, but recently was bought a Squier VM 70's Jazz 5 by my wife as a Christmas pressie (best wife ever).

I dropped a Sadowsky preamp with VTC in there incl SAD knobs. The Black aluminium knobs look super classy on it though with the black block inlays. Kept it Vol Vol and it sounds great in both passive (it did before in all fairness) and now in active mode.

I have replaced the strap buttons with Warwick straplock jobbies, coz I like them, everything else is stock so far. Thought I would replace the bridge, but I am actually really liking the vibe of it, and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Touring down to Texas for SXSW and it's gonna be a total ****show. Don't wanna deal with worrying about the Rickenbacker when I can't keep an eye on it so I brought the VM Precision instead. It's a good bass. Beginning to really bond with it.

I own a bunch of high end basses...Elrick,Kinal,Curbow and have owned a bunch others. I also own a very sweet 97 American Standard Jazz. This being said the bass i am enjoying playing the most now is my recently acquired used VM70 jazz. It is absolutely amazing with one caveat. I can't get the G string to match the output of the other strings for the life of me. The E A D are absolutely glorious on this bass!! Live i have never felt such response from a bass and i have been playing homegrown steady for 33 years now. Check us on Facebook... Neo Trio...was that allowed? hope i didn't upset any moderator gods with that mention but just to give some validity. Can anybody help me with what to do or what replacement pickups that may even get close to those original Seymour Duncan Designed pickups? Seriously my friends....that E A D are just sublime and we cover such a wide array of tunes and i can find it with this bass. So fat and warm and yet punchy and articulate. Come on G string....i know you can....lol. Thanks for any help!

And just to add....Live i am playing through an Eden Wt550 head into a Bag End D10BXD. That combo is insanely good, by the way, for smaller to medium rooms!!!

Can you not loosen the screws on the G string side of your pickups? Have it slant slightly upward toward that string.

Had some spare parts sitting in a drawer so my mods didn't cost me any more$. DiMarzio Model Js, Badass bridge, Fender tuners and metal knobs. Well, I paid for a new set of strings. Bypassed the tone and replaced the knob with an acorn nut.

I haven't seen anyone post a white VM Jag yet. Completely stock for now. I would like to black it out though. Love this bass.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the before and after tone.
pups to me are still a mystery, in that it is really hard to tell what you're going to get before you actually make a change.

re Pots: is it just mine? the pots on the vmj are the most liquid I've had on anything.... a puff of air will move them. if I accidentally bump one while playing.... yikes.
I'd love to replace them with something that is a bit more planted.

Cheep fix: remove the knobs add a felt washer on the shaft, replace the knobs.

could some of you weigh-in on what strings you currently love on your VMJ's? [fretted]
I picked up a sunburst model and whatever is on there is just awful. I play pressurewound on the sister and love them except I wish they were about 10% heavier... especially the 1st string [I tune whole step low on both]. I thought about getting a 5 string set

I don't want to go flats - been there.

what do you like?

You guys got me hooked on getting one. I just need to sell my MIM Fender first.

I was in complete denial about it being my perfect feel bass...turns out...it wasn't. Time to let the thing go. Maybe a Squier VM will do me good.

Just got this guy for Christmas. Sounds absolutely amazing. I've been able to get sounds out of this bass that I've been struggling for over a year to get from my Ibanez.

No, the bass came that way. It's a Squier VM 70s. Black bound neck with black blocks and pickguard. I switched mine out for updated MIM electronics, with 250K pots and an orange drop cap and it definitely became much more tonally alive to my ear. Great bass.
