I like the black bridge and those knobs. I'm going to have to do that to mine.
This does not in my mind qualify as a true Squier,,but the neck is VMJ 70's and the body is Fender (MIM) Precision. The body was purchased here on TB fully shielded and loaded. I swapped out the pups for 1/4 pounders.
That P bass is sweet!! I prefer jazz necks, and P bass bodies. Best of both worlds!
I have a VM P and absolutely love it. Could probably be my only bass. A local pawnshop has one for a decent price. I'm very tempted to pick it up and turn it into a P/J. I don't really want to mess with the one i already have and risk losing whatever it is that makes that one special.
Anyway, my question is, what are some suggestions as to what pickup I should drop in? I'd prefer a fairly traditional J tone, but it isn't super important, i'm more concerned with something with a fairly high output. the P is way waaaaayyyy hotter than my VM-J, if i popped the bridge pup from the J into the P i don't know if you would even hear it.

I second the SJB-3B. I have them in my Jazz bass and they get a HUGE sound with a lot of output.
There are lots of things I'd recommend doing to one of these basses out of the box, and foregoing their already-installed shielding paint for a complete copper-foil job is part one. A fret leveling is part two. Beyond that, it's a matter of taste, but those two specific things make for a very gigable bass, and to be honest, you'll likely need to do a fret-level and shield to a MIM Fender as well. The difference is, the routing for the Squiers is better, and the grounding lugs are already in place. 
Found a VM white p on Guitar Center's website. I guess whoever bought it didn't recognize the gold logo and listed it for $99. I was a little worried that they were using a stock picture since this is obviously a price closer to a used Affinity. I did screenshot of the website and had it shipped to my local GC. Luckily for me it was the real deal, barely used too.
Its a quality bass, the only complaint is that its a bit light and has some neck dive. I'll probably put some ultralite tuners on there when I can find some used ones, but its not a big deal at this point.

Curious inframan... what neck would you use? As pictured above I put a VM 70's Jazz on my MIM Precision.
Just a heads-up, the neck on mine is excellent. The only thing is, aesthetically speaking, I would prefer it have a gloss finish on the fretrboard as opposed to the satin one it has, but other than that, I find the neck exemplary.
the maple one, of course then it would pretty much be a Matt Freeman VM. But I'd consider it more of a Dee Dee Ramone tribute

Bought my VM 5 Jazz used one month ago today, since then I've added a new bridge, new tuners, new neck plate, and new control plate (decal was gone when I bought mine). Special thanks to Bobster and mattiastomas for some helpful tips!
This... Can I ask which tuners you've used?
General question: any ideas to reduce the trebly bit of the sounds. Have one; love it a lot; just sometimes the trebly/sizzly sound gets to me.
I've dropped in a EMG J5 set and that helped a lot, but it's still there.
Any ideas are welcome.
