Here is me playing my Squier Vintage Modified 77 Jazz. There is some mod on it : defretted, new tuning machines and DiMarzio 'J' pickups, D'Addario Chrome flat strings.

Right now I'm looking to buy a Squier Modified 70' as my main fretted bass because I like the neck very much, almost as thin and confortable as the Geddy Lee and American Jazz Deluxe one.
It's not that I don't like the MIJ and MIA but IMO the value for money is not that good. As bass is not my main instrument, a Squier with replacement pickups and maybe a little fret job will be almost as good for less money.
I don't need a number, but I agree that most Squier VM are great instruments for little money.

unusual... most people that cycle through other pups end up going back to the stockers. they're awfully good for the bass.
speaking of mods: if any of you have swapped out the tone pot for both frequency and quality reasons? I need a tip there... willing to make the switch

I'm double-dipping here but ... Can some of you comment on the newer VMPJ model tone [especially]? what does it sound/play like?
added dimarzio ultra jazz j pickup to my VM P that i have for some years. modified it into pj. sounds great!
i have VERY different strings on my 2 VMJ's, stock pups. i notice that I'm not impressed with the tone I get on my treble string no matter what. just never sounds good enough. on the one I use pressurewounds on it sound 'tinny' to me unless I really concentrate and play near the bridge , which isn't really a great place to be forced to.
on the one with the big heavy slinky's, it just sounds like any ole 4th string out there - not very articulate and impossible to get a 'pinched' tone. in both cases I found i have to keep the neck pickup completely run 'in' for max clearance because if not, the string is deflected by the pup and gives me an annoying dissonant harmonic.

wow, my fist post in this thread was post number 2 in part 1, back in 2009.

this job done by my technician and he is pro luthier and has pro router. he did very nice job and i am very happy with the results. both look and sound offcourse.
Just got back from the gig with VM Tele bass and wow, I'm impressed. That pickup is LOUD, and the bass had a rich deep bass sound without being muddy. Sat in the mix great. The strings are Fender rounds, I looked up what came stock on it and bought those. The biggest problem I'll have with this bass is matching volume with my other basses. I thought my Sunburst Epi T-Bird was loud, but not compared to the Tele-monster.
I believe the official designation is "Squier Vintage Modified Precision bass TB".
True, but if you do a search for a Squier Tele or Telecaster bass, you get something entirely different.yeah, too much typing...
BTW, are these OOP now?
