My output is much lower than my P bass, but the P is running a fairly hot SPB-4, so I don't really expect them to be the same.
The pups sound fine. A little more high end zing than MIM or MIA jazzes. I just turn up the amp volume and all is good.

Finally got the neck mounted.... now it looks like my old 1962 P Bass with the '67 Jazz neck.....
The headstock decal is my name and i hand wrote '62 custom, the shape may be a bit wonky ...but I could afford the neck.

Got a VM 77 Jazz arriving in the next couple of days. I haven`t owned a Jazz for a while and everyone should have one!
Got a black Wilkinson bridge, black knobs, black tuners and a set of Picato flats ready to go on. Will change the screws and control plate to....black, once I get round to it.

Ive seen some of the Amber bodied one with blacked out hardware, its a nice look
Hello guys, first of all sorry for my english, I'm from Argentina 
Got my new VM Jaguar some days ago.
It's a really good bass for the money, but I wanted to ask for some advice because I'm thinking about modding it a little.
PICKUPS: Duncan Designed are OK, but I want them to sound better. Which brand do you recommend? EMGs? Seymour Duncans? DiMarzios? I'm looking for a very versatile sound, as I play a lot of different genres (from 60's or 70's prog to hard rock).
BRIDGE: Again, the bridge is OK but I wanted something of more quality able to bring some more sustain to the sound. I read somewhere in the forum that a Badass II would change the sound drastically... Would it be better to go for a Gotoh 201?
(Shouldn't be called a mod) STRINGS: Which strings do you use in your VMs? I never trusted too much in stock strings, so I bought some RotoSound RB40s, I'm going to replace them in the next days. There are not a lot of brands here, but a friend of mine recommended the RotoSounds over the Fender or Ernie Ball strings. What's your opinion?

2. bridge: Some people like the Badass II, some don't, some have said it makes a big improvement in tone and sustain, others have expressed disappointment that it did nothing to improve anything, and they removed it and went back to the stock bridge (and a lot of them ended up here on TB for sale). If you want to take the chance go ahead, but I would say, if there's nothing wrong with your stock bridge, best just leave it alone. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
3. Strings - it depends on what overall type of sound you want. Any particular music style you would like to emulate?

I'm in the camp of "BAII is not worth the price". I purchased a BAII 15 years ago for about $75 dollars (slotted and installed). Pricey for the time, but not much of similar quality was available then (I think a high mass Fender MIA bridge was about $99 as a comparison). I still own the BAII and it's on a Squier Precision Special so comparison to other bridges is easy. I recently purchased this high mass bridge for less than $9 total shipped price. The new bridge was a direct drop in on a MIM Jazz. Compared to the stock "classic" bent Fender bridge it is more solid feeling, has better sustain, the saddles don't move side to side and I don't need loctite on the height adjustment screws to keep them in place while playing. It looks, sounds and feels every bit as good as the BAII or the stock high mass bridges on some CV/VM Squiers. I'd recommend, don't waste your money on a BAII bridge. Put your money into new pickups and upgraded electronics (pots/cap etc). Those items will make a more noticeable difference in tone and cost about the same as the new BAII. If you're unhappy or just think a high mass bridge will be better than the stock bent bridge of you current bass, get the high mass unit linked above. My $0.02 & YMMV

Thinking about a new pickguard for my VM 70s Jazz. Right now, it has a red tort one. Any suggestions on new directions? Black pearloid? White or vintage pearloid? Something else?
Natural finish like the one pictured a few post above yours.
And, IMO, it looks best with the black PG it comes with.
Personally i agree with Batmensch that black is best with the natural.
But i also refinished my VM
