Squier vintage modified club, part 2

I'm in! Got this VM Jazz today. Actually went to GC prepared to bring home a MIM Standard J but was so impressed with this that i couldn't justify the extra $ for the Fender. Also tried the 70s VM, but like the tamed highs of the rosewood fingerboard better. Need to set it up still, but played awhile this afternoon and love it! Will matchup well with my Ibanez TMB100 as a P-bass.
UPDATE: Just did a full setup, was pretty close as was, just a slight loosening of the truss rod, a little lowering of three of the four strings at the bridge, minor intonation adjustments to a couple strings and had to raise both pickups a couple 64ths of an inch.

Get rid of those misplaced chrome knobs and put some proper jazz knobs on and it's pure gold. *Gold Jerry!

Here's my Squier VM 70's Jazz.
I've changed bridge to a Fender Hi mass Dlx (OEM on Blacktop basses), changed knobs to genuine Fender Jazz, added thumb-rest and upgraded electronics to a CTS 250K solid pots, orange drop cap and switchcraft jack.
Also I will upgrade pickups to a AVRI 75 Jazz pickups (ordered) and that's it for this transformation.

These upgrades have cost me 210$, added this to 415$ paid for the bass, total cost is 625$. Now yes I know that this seems too much for a Squier VM 70's Jazz but in Europe they cost in between 320 and 360 Euros (350 to 390$ depending on a color) and in my country a few bucks more.
But a MIM Standard Jazz costs from 850$ (gear4music) to 870$ (thomann.de), and basically you get 40$ pickups, 25$ brigde, 30$ tuners, so it's not better than a Squer VM od CV, maybe a bit more consistent quality control but costs 2x more.
To get a MIM Jazz with block inlays you have to pay 1015$ to 1040$ for a Classic 70's Jazz

Ok, so I've just acquired a Squire VM VI, but i think I've went the opposite of most. I bought the Kalium BVI-70 set (.070-.016)...used standard tuning with B for the 1st/6th strings. I'd really consider it a baritone guitar now. (And, I am primarily a guitarist.) Just had a first listen today and WOW~! It's got amazing tone in the upper register. I added a Boss RV5 for some depth and it makes for the easiest super heavy heavy metal guitar I've ever played! I'm a 70's era music kinda guy, so this will make for some fun Pink Floyd and the like. I also dropped a couple 0.60 flat picks between the neck & body to get some good tilt and better string break behind the bridge.

Originally started with Ibanez gio from GC, after a couple weeks had some problems and returned it. Found this Squier and immediately it felt so much better in my hand! This is my first baby....

Nice! I have the blue version of that same PJ and love it (once I changed out the strings that were on it).

For me, the reason I wanted a PJ configuration was to run flats on it. I figured being able to mix the bridge pickup with the P pickup would brighten up the flats a little when I wanted to while still being able to get a good deep tone out of it using just the P pickup. So I put on EB Slinky Cobalt Flatwounds 50 through 105. I was a little worried that the added string tension would affect the neck but it had no affect at all, setup still checks out perfect. Very impressed with the Squire quality for the price, and love the tone from it now. The bass came from the factory with Fender Rounds 45-100 (I think 7250's?). I have never liked the fender rounds, just too bright and twangy for my taste. I run EB Round Slinky's 50 - 105 on my P-bass, and have D'Addario half rounds 45-100 on my Ray (for now).

Not a member of this club but I needed to add a P bass to my collection. I Free Lance so there may come a time when I need a P. So here is mine. For the money a nice little bass. And the finish on the neck doesn't bother me one bit. When I really play I sweat so I look at it as extra protection from ME. I actually use it a lot to transcribe songs and keep the strings fresh on my MTD Kingstons.

My local store has the Squier VM PJ 3 tone in stock, I have the funds from stuff sold and I'm thinking of picking it up and making some light mods to it. Switching the tuners to hipshot lites, etc. I could probably raise the funds to get an American P Bass but I already have a Fender MIM P, a Fender MIM J, an EBMM and a SBMM and a custom made bass by my luthier on the way. I don't gig often, Bass playing is pretty much a hobby right now with everything else going on in my life so I don't see the sense of buying an MIA. I find it a lot of fun to start off with a good inexpensive bass like the Squier VM or CV and build upon it without breaking the bank. I had a Matt Freeman P Bass a couple years ago that I never should have sold. I know the VM & CV line are no joke so that's why I'm strongly thinking about picking one up.

How's that neck feel near the nut? 1.875 is larger than I'm used to with my Stingray 5's 1.75. Easy to get accustomed to? I've been GASing for a P or a PJ for a couple months, and I'm a 5 string guy, so not a whole lot is out there without spending a ton. The VM P5 and the VM Jaguar 5 are both pretty tempting to me.

Well I'm no longer a single-bass owner and officially a Squier VM Club Member... I just bought this Squier VM fretless P-bass off Reverb. Can't wait to start working on fretless technique! Also have a set of GHS flats on the way as well.

This is the actual bass and not a stock photo and from the photo the tort looks very busy and high contrast. I'm waiting util I see it in person, but debating on finding a different pickguard for it down the road.

I just bought this beautiful Squier VM Precision bass used. It's honestly a joy to play, and sounds better than my MIM Fender P ever did.
