Squier vintage modified club

I am getting some grounding buzz on mine. But I LOVE the sound of this guy w. the Chromes. I think the buzz is coming from the tone pot, if I upgrade the pots to CTS 250's It shouldn't change the tone right?
Mine has DiMarzio Model Js, a Gotoh 201 bridge, and I just bought some Fender-style Jazz knobs to replace the chrome domes. Love this bass!
sweet and excellent photography. If I ever go fretless, I think this one would be a great starting point.

IMHO It is, indeed, a great point to make your first steps into the fretless world.
maybe i should leave this club, because what i have now is not squire anymore.. the only squire part remain is the neck. which is the best part of the whole thing and one of the best necks i ever played.
i liked the maple body a lot. its beautiful and have great sound to my ears, but the weight was impossible for me and my back..
so after long time searching and researching i found this black MIM jazz body for cheap price - 50$..

i was heavily considered to leave it black and make own geddy lee version. but decided it's to much banal for my taste so i decided to take of the finish. it went pretty easy with hair fan a spreading knife and looked like this:

my luthier sprayed some coats of nitrocellulose with some yellow to make it more vintage looking and i assembled the rest and now its looks like this -

and now its lightweight bass - 8.7 pounds. and it sounds great and very fun and comfortable to play!

SD basslines SJB2 pickups
CTS 500K pots
Badass II bridge
Graphtech nut
Hipshot tuners and Extender key
Warwick straplocks
no much Squire left in it.
and still the Squire VM is one of the best deals out there!

I got a used VM Fretless Jazz for a great price today. If I find myself holding onto it I think I'll throw a white pickguard on there, and maybe swap out the electronics for an EMG J set.
The original owner put the Strat knobs you see on there. I don't like them so much, I think I'll be putting black J knobs on there

Sorry to double post, but can anyone comment on putting an EMG J set in the VM Fretless J? or putting them in a Squier in general? I've heard things about Squiers and MIM Fenders having both pickup cavities routed the same size. How much of a problem does this tend to cause? Thanks in advance 
Nice... I'd put a tort guard on there... have you considered a J-Retro... they're super for fretless!
The fretless I am actually still renting, but Doo-Wop in Louisville lets you buy out a rental if you want. It is so cheap I can't not do it, and I cannot let this fretless go. I have one other fretless after 25 years of playing, and this one literally called my name from its hook on the wall, and whispered sweetly to me to take it home and learn to play at least half of my repertoire on it. Which I promptly did. I have tried MANY fretlesses in 25 years. I have NEVER had one immediately feel good to me, and the thing is absolutely freaking GORGEOUS to behold. Mine is a bit dented because it is a rental, but I like the character it has. I have it featured on like 4 of the 11 tracks on my band's demo that we're working on, and it is a delight to mix into a song.
The fretted bass I bought about 18 months ago when I took my Rickenbacker in to get the pickup repotted. I had never owned a Jazz or even a Fender of any description. I went into the back room at Guitar Emporium and saw a ton of Jazz basses, so I tried them all. After A/B comparing this one to the GL Jazz, I could not tell much of a difference at all, so I bought it right there on the spot, since my main gigging bass was the Ricky. I have not looked back since. It is a wonderful instrument, and I understand there is a '60's model out there too in all white which I am dying to get hold of. These new Squier basses are just wonderful. I bought some knobs from a GL bass to put on it, and they look pretty cool, though I do not think I have a photo of it like that yet.

I changed out pretty much everything but the body, neck, and pickguard on my VM '70s Jazz.
I had some Lindy Fralin 5% overwound steel pole piece single coil pickups from another project which dropped right in. Then I swapped out the tuners for black Hipshot ultralights and swapped out the bridge for a black Badass II. I swapped out the wiring harness for higher grade pots and such, shielded it, and replaced the string tree and pickguard screws with black ones.
Since I took the pic I've replaced the bridge with an ABM bridge which could be adjusted side to side so I could get the strings lined up a little more accurately.
I really like the black hardware. Has that hint of "custom."
The neck feels great and I've even been known to gig it alongside my Sadowsky PJ. The Fralins really nail that vintage growly tone.

Squier VM J w/ Badass II and a Red Tortoise shell PG. Flat out rocks, I play Prog/Alt/Christian Rock with it. (NICE with some distortion, contour, and a treble boost.) Sounds better and plays better than an American Fender. Number me please.

I have to ask, though, Why start a club if you have no intention of bothering with it?
