Squier Vintage Modified or Squier Classic Vibe series?

I've played both I would have the VM, because the CV's had a glossy neck, and I don't really do glossy necks...
Still both are really nice basses.
I do prefer the Pickups in the VM though.

I bought a Squier VM as my first bass a couple years ago. I learned to play and read posts like this etc. I read the put downs about Squires and what not. I went and bought a Geddy Lee jazz as my second purchase once I learned to play and got to playing decent. I like the Geddy Lee, but as far as quality and playability the Squires right up there with the Geddy jazz. I did do some adjusting of the truss rod and action on the Squier to my liking and it plays awesome.That makes the Squier one hell of a deal for the money. I'd buy another one in a second. For $279 !! How can you beat it?
The VM have Duncan Designed pickups except for the tele bass, the CV's are squier brand alnico pickups. No idea who manufactures them for squier. I found the duncan jazz pickups to be a little dark. I'm curious to anyone else's opinion on the pickups. I'd like to get a CV jazz and a VM tele bass. I have the CV 50's p. I replaced the pickup with a SD quarter pounder and I love it.
I don't know who produces the Classic Vibe pickups, but I do remember seeing a sticker underneath the pickups saying "Fender Alnico" or something along the lines of such. I'm guessing they were spec'd by Fender and outsourced to a Korean factory, like Duncan does with their Duncan Designed series.
My stock CV Jazz pickups are in my tech's possession now, so I can't double check.

Well, I've been rocking my CV50 a lot lately.
I play mostly fretless, but as a fretted bass I love the CV50 the most.
This is an INCREDIBLE instrument.
Dare I say, the Squier CV series stack up to the 80s MIJ Squiers.
I am going to mod the CV50 I have now, and I'm going to buy another CV50 and leave that one stock.
I have a gut feeling that these basses, all the CVs P and J and maybe the VM are going to be collecter items one day.
Much like the 80s MIJ Squiers now.
went to Gutar Center and i played all of them............including the fretless.
bought a fretless then took it back.
the Classic Vibe was my hands down favorite.
bought one and kept it.
love the neck, the feel and the tone.
hate the color but it was $317 out the door and i use it mostly for practice and sessions

I traded my VM fretless because I couldn't get th eneck relief set quite right. It had a buzz that I couldn't get rid of.
I played a couple CV basses - 50's P and Jazz - and like both of them. I am looking for a 2nd/backup bass and may consider the jazz. There's also a very nice MIA at the store that has been on the wall for a while. I may try to see how badly they want to sell it...and I want to buy it.

I just tried a VV Jazz out and loved it. The VV Jazz would go very nice with my VM Jazz and for the price I might make that a reality soon. As for which one is better its really apples and oranges.

I just picked up a vintage mod precision and I love it the sound is amazing and is very comfortable
I am gonna get one of those classic vibe P-pass 60's as soon as I can afford it (just got me a pbass special 94´ MIM for $320 and luthier tools for $300 so now there's no more cash for toys for a while), I tried it some 6-8 months ago and didn't know what it was by then, got amazed, the neck feels all the way fender, and the pups deliver big time!!
Best bang for the buck by far imho.

Can't speak for the CV, but my VM Jazz's Duncan Designed pickups are incredible.
i recently bought used for 150.00 a squier jazz standard bass im digging it ...it plays nice as is but im going to modify it i recently bought the pick ups and pre amp off ebay from a jass v usa im going to install but i really like how think the neck gets on the standard i just got..pretty nice....
I managed to play both the CV 60's P and the J back to back and I was floored! I wanted both... the P had the classic warm p tone and growl and the J was pure vintage in tone and feel (I have a 62 Jazz at home).
I was very, very impressed with both of these.
I was thinking of getting the jazz for a replica project... may still do.

Last week I played a CV and a VM in the Guitar center in Brookfield WI.
The VM felt every bit as good as my own (I have yet to find a dog in the VM Jazz - played 6 or 7 now) and the sound was great.
The CV blew me away! Different tone than the VM. Could be the pups or could be the body wood and the pups, don't know. But the bass just flat out impressed me!
Then I tried the fretless VM Jazz.....I'm still drooling! Must have one!
I played every bass I tried through the same amp so ther was no variable there.
The CV is a damn fine bass as is the VM. You will have to play them both to figure it out for yourself, but I will say this. I very much liked the satin finish on the back of the VM neck, but that is nothing a green scrubby cannot fix on the CV.

I ordered a CV Jazz yesterday....waiting with GAS is worse than GAS. I am only 1 day into the wait and it already sucks....
