Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

I'm probably back in the mood for this bass... if I can sell my Jazz Classic Vibe, I'm gonna pick it up.

I almost pulled the trigger on a CAR P5 today. The action was medium low, the pick up needed a slight adjustment but it was light (just a hair heavier than the AM P5 that was hanging beside). It played well and i was playing the life out of it when i noticed not one but two frets that had rust stains on it!!!!! That is a deal breaker for me.

I've examined a lot of barn finds over the years, and never seen a rusty fret. That was much more likely to have been something else, maybe jeweller's rouge from fret polishing.
Go back and ask for a discount because of the discoloured fret. Chances are you'll either get the price reduced, or they'll do the obvious, and spend 30 seconds cleaning it up themselves.
Lousy reason to lose out on a bass that you like...
I'm still running the OEM strings on mine, although I'm anxiously waiting for a set of D'Addario balanced-tension nickel rounds from Bassstringsdirect....
I'm running the D'Addario balanced tension nickel rounds that Steve just mentioned, and I absolutely love both the tone and playability of these strings. I never realized the difference that balanced tension could make. In my case they have improved the even handedness of my fingerstyle technique and allowed me to pick up some speed with my right hand as well.
Dunlop steels on mine. Luv the feel and tone, but I'd still like to try some flats... Sadowsky or Chromes...

They sound a bit like prosteels to me. Bright stainless round wounds. I got no beef with the original strings. Will play them till the go dead.

I just ended up buying it at another store.
The bass is light (around 9-9.5lbs) as soon as i got home i set up the trust rod, intonation, pick up and string height and i have a pretty decent sounding P-Bass for $300.
I dont mind the OEM strings (Fender makes decent strings and cheaper than Da'Darrio) ill change them when they go dead.
I have never owned a P bass (unless i count an Ibby P/J i had back in the day) and I'm loving it.
Its a keeper. I'm debuting it at my next church service.

Admittedly, I haven't been this anxious to get a bass in a long time; probably since my first Fender Jazz.
I'm really looking forward to it.
If I like it enough I'll be playing it at church on Sunday as well!

Tightened a few screws, as suggested and adjusted the pickup and string height.
The neck was just about perfect, but I still need to set the intonation.
Great range on the tone knob. Really easy to get several usable tones.
Matching is decent; I'm satisfied with it.
She came in at a solid 9.0 lbs too. I think it's about the same as my Ash 4 string Jazz!
This was a worthwhile purchase. I'm very happy with it.
