As much as like chromes, they are a bit too stiff for me and bright. The TI plus a few adjustments makes the bass sound thumphy and mid focus as Pbass should be. As soon as i bought the bass i had it set up with TI flats, didn't even broke in the NOS rounds it came with.

I have flipped 3 different sets of strings on mine.
Labella low tension flats. Ghs big cores. Smith compressors. So far the Labella win out.
Waiting on Ernie Ball Cobalt flats.
Never likes chromes...
I might try some roto 775lds this week.
Had Dr low riders nickel on it for a minute.. just didn't work with this bass (imho)

I love Sunbeams on 4-string P-basses. Lovely warm sound, and they last well. Couldn't get a good B out of them on my 5-string basses, regardless of type.

Weird. I've never once had this issue.

Here is mine, loving it so far... Thinking about an aged white pearloid pg and maybe and ashtray cover for the bridge. Has anyone replaced the tuners for Hipshot HB7s?

I'm not touching the pups or the bridge, I think they're ok by now.

If you do find a pbass-style bridgecover that will fit a 5 string bridge, would you mind letting me know? I'm still looking for one for my Car VM P5, but I've all but given up hope of ever finding one...

So did i.. I put a shortened jazz 'trays on mine.
I couldn't find pickup or bridge 'trays so I improvised. Result is satisfying but not optimal.

Weird. I've never once had this issue.

I should have been more specific.

I don't mean that the B strings were defective in my 5-string Sunbeam packs. I just meant that I don't like the way the B feels and sounds with the low tension of the Sunbeams, at least on my basses.

I'm a Dingwall guy, so that impacts my expectations. I'm used to extremely even tension, and an unusually clear "piano tone" on the B string.

I love the low tension feel of Sunbeams on a 4-banger, but I found the difference in tone between the B string and the E too great on my parallel-fret fivers. Just a little too round and undefined. Ditto for the Dragon Skins.

This happened with my custom 35" bass, Fender Jazz V and Ibanez ATK305, so it wasn't just a Squier thing.

Amongst DR strings, Low Riders are my favourite round for 5 string basses, but overall I prefer Balanced Tension sets. That was what finally made me satisfied enough with my VMP5 to stop modding it.

I've only used the D'Addario BT sets so far, but I imagine that I would get the same results with Kallium/Circle K. If DR made a balanced tension set in Sunbeams and/or Dragon Skins, they could just as easily become my new favourite...

Will install on Sunday. Pics as promised of current status. String through drilled. Ferrules installed. American deluxe bridge relocated and mounted. Fretmarkers installed. Hot chick sticker, placed not mounted. Ashtrays placed for pics not yet mounted. New harness with CTS and orange drop with treble bleed. New flat top knobs installed for solid shafts. Cavities shielded with copper foil and soldered. Sorry did not snap pics of cavities only had couple hours after work.. I'm pretty happy with the results so far have 6 gigs before the new year.

Shot a photo of my current fleet, so I thought I'd post it here. Missing are my IEM's and Turbo tuner. That's literally all I'm taking to gigs these days.

Either bass and the modded Rumble 100V3 to coffee shop gigs, the G-K head and AudioKinesis cab to everything else. The G-K/AK stack is a bit heavier and takes longer to set up, but it plays about as loud as an RB800 into a 4X10...

The "big" and small rigs are both WELL under 40lb, and both basses come in under 9lb. Needless to say, my lower back problems have pretty much abated with this setup.

No pedals or other outboard gear. I don't have any wireless-friendly gigs at the moment, and I've mothballed my compressor and JDI, because the MBFusion makes such a great front end and DI (set for post-EQ, which is also pre-Master Volume).

Never tried one in a Squire, but the J Retro is a lovely piece. You can't go wrong with that...
