Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

Tell me more? What does the tone styler do? I love the stock tone as well. It's slightly muddy recording, would the tone styler tighten the sound?
Sorry for the delay in responding, I'm not on TB very often these days.
Am Std Precision V pickup (stock Squier pickup is fine in my estimation, but I got the Fender pickup cheap), Dimarzio DP551 Area J at the bridge. Bridge pickup placed so that the attachment screws closest to the bridge are 0.82 inches away from the front edge of the stock bridge plate. This is a subjective choice, as there are good tones to be found with the pickup right up against the edge of the pickguard...
Standard Jazz Bass VVT wiring, although I may experiment with a rotary switch a la Dingwall.
Still TBD: whether to do a stacked pot for the volume controls, or add a third pot a little further up the control cavity.

The Tonestyler is a tone pot on steroids, basically giving you 11 different tone cutoffs, from super-zingy stright-to-jack tone, all the way to super deep treble-less tone. Not sure if it would tighten the tone up, but it will definitely make it more versatile.
Damage has been done. Point of no return on the PJ project. Got the cavity for the J routed and got the cavities shielded. Now I just need to get the soldering iron out and wrap it up.
Just a couple of comments based upon my Squier PJ conversion. I started with an old Squier "PJ" which of course for some odd reason had two terrible jazz pickups in it. So I modded it with a NOS Fender p-bass 5 string pickup and an Ultra Jazz 5 string bridge pickup. Refurb included straploks, shielding, new pots (bumped up to 500k) and jack and new pickguard.

There are only two downsides of this amazing bass that you should be aware of.
1. I do not like the feel of the agathis wood body compared to say alder. And even worse I like their current basswood body even less for a passive bass. Though it is a trade off with weight.
2. The output of the Ultrajazz pickup does not quite match that of the p-bass pickup. Result is that you need to run the P volume at about 80% to match that of the bridge pickup on full.
The bass for grins has a push pull switch on the P pickup volume control that puts the p pickup in series (in) or parallel (out). In parallel mode the volumes do balance, but I've never liked the tone of the instrument in that configuration so basically I never use it.
PJ is done.
Sounds like a PJ. Still sounds like a P. The stacked vol pot is linear taper and I'm pretty sure the volume pot I took out was audio. The change is noticeable. Not good or bad, just different. Looking forward to playing it through my rig.

Anyone find a set of flats with a good B and normal tension? I hear a lot of great things about chromes, but I tried a Medium set on one of my 4s and it was like trying to play steel beams haha

I got it from Bass Parts Resourse and it's called the economy 5 string bridge . I had to to redrill the mounting holes for it and I did drill out the B and G hole a little bit to allow easier string changing for larger strings but it's a very nice bridge for a bargain price . I can't tell much difference in the tone but I like it !

I just put a high mass bridge on mine that worked out very well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg . It has the same spacing as the stock bridge and I think it is easier to change strings on .

Looks great! Have we identified any high mass bridges that are a direct swap without drilling yet? I live in an apartment and have no woodworking equipment or experience
Received mine a few days ago and I'm going to slap some chromes on it for the major "boom". Also put some sadowsky knobs and straploks on it and it looks great so far. One minor gripe:
When playing the low b string, the pickup covers rattle. When playing other strings this doesn't seem to happen. I think he pickups are spring loaded, so it allows for more movement in the pickups, causing this. Anyone have the same issue and come up with a simple solution?

Yours is the first report of this problem.
One possibility: I have yet to see one of these basses, where the pickup height is adjusted correctly out of the box.
In order to get the Fender recommended setting, it's generally necessary to drastically increase the angle of the bass side.
You may find that the buzz will go away once it's properly set up. You could also take a look at the pickup while you're changing the strings. Perhaps the cover isn't properly seated over the polepieces?

Did anything change: sustain, feel? Weird tone wasn't affected at all
The setup feels better , I have the strings a little lower and no buzz . That probably came because I had to position the new bridge to line up to the center of the neck with enough room for setting intonation and then set the whole bass up again . It does seem like the lower notes on the B string might have better definition but they sounded good before too . I got it mostly so I wouldn't scratch the body behind the bridge changing strings like on the L shaped Fender style bridge .
