Any of you running rounds on your Squier P5? I have two of these, sunburst and candy apple red. I play in a cover band two or three gigs a week and the music is all over the place so I need versatility. So far, one is wearing D'Addario EXL170-5 and the other has D'Addario NYXL5 on it. Tried Dunlop Super Bright Nickels and liked some aspects of the sound but had issues with G strings not intonating and on pick style songs the tension and flop was just too much even at higher action and relief settings. Just wondering what rounds any of you might be using.

Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

Im using fodera nickel rounds on mine with the 125 b string. Nice tension and super focused tone, they also age well and still retain their guts after they lose their zing.
If i was to try another round it would be the cobalt rounds as the cobalt flats sounded great on this thing whem i tried those, too.

Regular D'Addario XL nickel rounds, but in the balanced tension set. Really helps to even out the feel and response, string to string.
I'm using the lighter set, because they have a little more "bark". People with a really heavy touch, would probably be be better with the heavier one.

I finally got off the fence about this, and ordered the VM P5 below. Sure, it's on the heavy side (9 lbs 6 oz), but I like the tobacco burst finish, and it was the last one Sweetwater had in that finish. I lost 60 pounds this year, so hopefully a pound or two of bass won't kill me.
Before ordering, I thinned my herd to zero. There's no going back on this one. Did I mention I'm impulsive when it comes to gear changes? Impulsive... but I'll also jones for months before making a move. Today just seemed like the day to clear my palate and start over.
Fingers crossed that I'll like it, but the odds are good. I can appreciate the sound of somebody else playing a fancier bass -- like Matt Garrison! But for my tastes a Precision offers enough musicality to keep my brain and fingers happy.
Strange coincidence: Today's the day I got a message from a fun-sounding band that wants me to try out. And here I am without a bass ... until Monday. I also sold my gigging rig a few months ago, so that's a bit of a conundrum too. Never a dull moment. Good thing I'm starting a new job on Monday as well.

They are really good playing and sounding basses . I can use mine for all my bands material and it sounds great . We have a couple songs that my Jazz does a better job on with some slap accents but the VMP5 sounds good enough on those too . I'm betting you will love it , I love mine .
If you like the 18mm spacing, you will probably like it real well.
Mine has D'Addario Chromes on it and the sound guys at church really like it.

Has anyone mounted an 08 or later Fender American Standard bridge on the Squier VM Precision 5? And if so what were the results? And yes I did a search but only found Hipshot etc.

I know, no pics, no bass. Here it is. I thought the finish was tobacco burst, but it's actually a 3-color sunburst with just a touch of red. Not very creative, but I like it.
It's now strung with La Bella 760FS-B flatwounds (.045, .065, .085, .105, .128). They sound pretty good so far, but I haven't yet plugged into an amp that can really reproduce the fundamental for the low B. Hopefully tomorrow night.
The string spacing seems "normal", and comfortable.

Anyone know if the Squier V necks are generally interchangeable?
I have a VM Jazz V neck that I'm fond of, but I'd like it on a P Body. I'm pretty sure it'll fit the VM P5, but what about the the older P5 Special or the Deluxe Active Jazz V bodies? I know those necks have wider nuts, but I'm not sure if they have a wider heel too.

I swapped necks on my VMJ5 and VMP5. Can't comment on the other basses you listed.

Planning on doing a mod to my VMP5 and adding a bridge J pickup... Has anyone done that? And do you know if an American standard pickup will work for that?
I added a J to mine. Posted about in this thread a few pages back. I used a dimarzio ultra jazz.
Thanks, I was planning to use a Fender one I got as a great deal. How are your pots wired, V/V/T? I was thinking in using stacked pots for volume, keeping just 2 knobs.

Will receive mine by the end of the week. Olympic white white a (nicely) spray paint Gold pickguard.
I won't even give the bass a chance to impress me, I also bought two sets of EMG P5-A pickups. I'll have the body routed in the "bridge" position and voilà, a nice twin P P bass 5
