Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

Have been playing my modded-to-heck Squier VMJ5 for a while, but am going to bust out the VMP5 tonight. I already remember why I loved this thing so much, just from playing it through headphones. Such a gnarly tone, and I absolutely adore the neck.

I also ordered a set of Hipshot Ultralites today to throw on. For some reason, it feels a little more neck-heavy than i remember. I thought, briefly, about throwing the VMJ5 pickups into it, in a JPJ config, probably with on/off switches for each pickup, and keeping the master volume and Tonestyler. May still do that at some point.

I am thinking of getting two of these. One for flats one for stainless rounds.
One in white and one in red.

And then flipping the pickguards. What would that entail? Would that need resoldering at any point of the process?

and yes, I am looking at a lot of things for my flat/round combo. I really do like pretty much all the basses out there. Thanks TB:bassist:

I was playing an Ibanez SR805 with Barts onstage with my 9 piece reggae band (The Mau Mau Chaplains). The tone was dark and the definition of the notes was lost in the mix. During the break I switched to the VM Precision V. When the first notes sounded I heard them cut through everything and it was like night and day. That to me is the best thing about P basses. You can always hear it and discern the notes no matter what else is happening.

I've gone back and forth between flats and rounds. With flats, (LaBella) it had the classic "p with flats" sound. With rounds, I've used Rotosound, DR Hi Beams and Dunlops. All had that great rock tone we all know. Currently I have GHS Pressurewounds on it.
Don't be afraid to get one one (or two!) of these basses. They are by far and away, the best Squier has to offer.

I recently mixed FOH for a Ghanian community concert. Loud acoustic drums, many vocal mics open, small room.

The bassist was playing my old squeeze, a custom-made passive two-pickup 5-string with Dingwall FD3 pickups.

I hate to say this as a bassist, particularly because it sounded so awesome for the Gospel stuff: but as a sound guy, when he switched to a buddy's VMP5 for the other material, it made my mixing job much easier.

Both basses were strung with lightly played-in nickel rounds...

can anyone compare the neck width/depth/feel to a g&l l2500? I know they are a tad bit wider at the nut, but not much.

There is no where around here that has them in stock to try. The neck width/feel is my only concern. They do have jazz 5vm squiers---I think I read the necks on those and these are the same except for the block inlays?

With both pickups on, the bass gains quite a lot of precision (sic), especially on the B string, and high range cleans up a bit (a slight mid scoop appears). The bridge pickup soloed is surprisingly rather useful, somewhat reminds me of Warwick Thumb.

I tried to record some sound samples yesterday but fell for luck of ideas (and time), will try to record some soon.

I know this is a pretty subjective question

but trying to decide on getting two of these

the one with rounds on it will get something like above for my more jangly music.

the other for flats will probably just stay p only
