Stage antics? Ideas? Get creative!

Let's see... What have my band and I have done in the past...

Cross dressing without telling your band first. (Put the skirt on after you set up, but before you go on.)

Cardboard cutouts of Clint Eastwood, Darth Vader, and Gandolf (See Above)

Inflatable sheep... (Nuff said...)

Spirit Fingers...

Doing ***ies and Beer by Frank Zappa (Skit included)

Dry humping.

Random schtick. (This is actually the hardest part, the comedic timing and chemistry between bandmates needs to be dead on, or it will seem to drag on forever (from the crowds point of view))

I have more, but it's late, and I'm tired, and can't find all the pictures.

Best thing I ever saw was at a Offspring concert. After Lit ended their set, it was dark on the stage. So without anyone seeing them, the road crew put 5 mannequins on the stage facing away from the crowd. Announcement comes on over the PA, "Ladies and gentlemen we have special treat for you tonight. The Backstreet Boys!" Every person there starts booing. Lights come on, you see 5 "people" on stage with their backs turned to you, and "Don't Want You Back" starts playing over the PA. After 10 seconds, Dexter from the Offspring comes out with a bat, and starts knocking their heads off, literally. Everyone cheered.

Another good one was at Green Day. Had a guy stumble out on stage dressed in a bunny suit and some sort of alcoholic beverage in hand. Started doing the YMCA.

Ginger Ale drinking contest.

Get someone on stage. Give them a 2 litre bottle of ginger ale. THey have until the end of the next song to finish the bottle. If they do they win a shirt or CD or whatever. If they don't you get to pour the remaining amount on top of their head.

To make it more difficult, switch to Vernors.

Ouch

oh god. i could never do that with a Ric.

back on topic; i'd watch some live Muse songs. Bellamy just loves making shrilly guitar riffs on the spot (off key), and he loves to just strum without fretting at all every once in a while. i'm trying to get my guitarist to watch these so he can get some ideas (i think what Bellamy does is awesome).
what i'm doing for our next gig (only if it's at night) is putting my old strobe light on stage. i just connect it to one of those extension cords with a foot pedal (like an effect pedal :p) and only get the strobe going during the wild parts.

and whatever you do, ALWAYS make sure you can pull it off without making a complete fool of yourself (unless that's what you're into)

Have your singer get really drunk, then have him/her get butt naked on stage, puke in his/her shoe, drink it and then puke again. I've already seen that done once at a show, but I think more people ought to expierience it. :bassist:

or just take a page from Gwar.

Quote from Alternative Press reviewing my favorite (now-defunct) local band, Treephort:
"The first time I saw TREEPHORT, on this summer's warped tour, in the course of a 30-minute set, their two male lead singers made out, stripped down to their underwear, lit their crotches on fire, drank countless gallons of yoohoo, vomited it all back up, and then made out some more. The worst part was, the music was actually really, really good."

Notes: There's only one singer. The underwear? Purple, Sequined G-Strings.

I've also seen this band put fruit on their heads and hit them with sledgehammers, have their keyboardist smash their keyboard, done entire shows in lingerie (3 of the 5 members are somewhat overweight), have someone's mother come on stage and throw peanuts at people...
Man, they were nuts.

Anyway, things my band has done:
-I came out in a miniskirt and fireman boots that came up to my butt.
-Our guitarist came out wearing a shirt that said "I choose not to use...drugs" or whatever? And everyone in the audience knew he was coping with a marijuana problem
-Filled a mayonnaise jar with whipped cream (so it looked like mayonnaise) and had me eat the entire thing. People in the audience got sick.
-Humping each other during solos
-Telling really offensive jokes
-Playing in our underwear with graffiti on us - thank you, Sharpies!
-Doing completely acoustic covers of death metal songs
-Borrowed a bigger band's wireless transmitters - the drummer was on stage, the guitarist and I were in the parking lot
-All swapped instruments for a song - I was on drums (my coordination is terrible), the guitarist was on bass, and our drummer was on guitar - poor guy can't even play a note.
It was terrible. Then we faked that it was an accident and switched to our regular instruments.
-Oh, on that acoustic metal song? We kept a B.C. Rich backstage, and when the guitar solo came, we wheeled out a half stack, plugged it in, and he shredded.
People went nuts.
-Had people come up and play air guitar while we played out of view

that's all for now

haha, i love it when bellammy is playing a riff and all of sudden leans back, lets his fretting handle dandle and starts strumming and all u hear is FUZZ....

but my band...i dont know, our gimmick is just playing kick ass music.

The Polish band Cremaster are really good at this. Perhaps the oddest thing they did when I saw them was invite a few volunteers up on stage for a contest. Then they handed one of them a leek (right, the vegetable), the vocalist grabbed a leek as well and the drummer announced that the contest is a duel so they started whacking each other with the leeks. After about 15 seconds the leeks were in pieces so the vocalist announced that he won and the other two volunteers were told to get off the stage because the leeks are no good anymore.

This band also did costume and wig changes, skits between songs, throwing water and flour into the audience, guitarist rubbing his strings on the vocalist's butt... but the leek duel was the best and most unexpected.

The band is like a hybrid of early Napalm Death and Weird Al Yankovic.
