Star Trek: Picard

I like Guinan as a character but if I know Alex Kurtzman, she's gonna stink. They know she's a listener and I'm sure that's all they know. El-Auriens listen. I bet there's gonna be some kind of sound that only El-Auriens can hear that means death for all sentient life is coming unless android Picard can stop it.

I was totally fine with the ending. In fact the last 15 minutes made up for the rest of the nonsense. Proof that there's no accounting for taste and/or that I'm an outlier.

Once I figured out what they were going to do and thought about it, I was ok with it. Hey, it's the same Picard with his original katra. But now he's also an android except with an expiration date.
Never mind kicking ass. How about the fitness and stamina of a 40 year old. Picard could barely make it up stairs in an earlier episode.

Well the trick for the writers will be to not overplay the android card.
The Season 1 showrunner Michael Chabon is being replaced for Season 2. Not sure if it was planned.
I'm perfectly happy suspending my disbelief for this series, and take it 100% at face value - just for entertainment purposes.
BUT, I swear if they start to get "preachy" or insert gratuitous situations as a reflection on today's society in order to make it more PC or appealing to certain social segments of society, then I'm out.

Yeah. Heaven forbid Star Trek hold progressive values. We certainly can't have that.
Progressive values are one thing. TOS did a lot of groundbreaking in that and to a lesser extent NextGen did too.
But for instance, in a favorite book series I've been reading the author introduced a character who was "gender fluid." That fact added absolutely nothing to the story, and it felt like he did it just for the sake of doing it.
Inserting social commentary to make it look like you're "progressive" isn't progressive at all, it's regressive. Good writing and good acting go hand-in-hand, and when a story is crafted well it inspires you without being a blatant attempt to grab the zeitgeist by the throat and strangle into submission.
It's called inclusiveness & you might as well get accustomed to it!

. Having POC, trans (well, LBGTQ+ entirely), gender fluid/non-binary etc. representation is welcome and, frankly, needed. There's plenty of white dudes on TV and movies. Give some space for these folks to shine, so kids in the same boats have role models to look up to.Except, you know, for say someone who is 16? 18? reading that series can now connect more with that character. They can see that, even in fiction, there are more like them, and hey, maybe that is their favorite character now?
I've seen women weep when explaining how someone like Ellen Degeneres made them realize it was OK to be like they were.
