Star Trek: Picard

Interesting. I completely disagree. This Picard seems more unsure of himself and his choices. He's weak and fearful. Could be because of his dying brain.

Possibly. Probably more to do with the fact that in the show, he's supposed to be in his 90s.

I suspect we'll get a solution to the irumotic syndrome thing in the season finale, along with a whole bunch of questions that still need answers. Who is this new son of Soong that we've never heard of? Could it be Lore in disguise? Will we see any actual Federation starships? Whose consciousness will end up inside the synth 'golem'? Will Raffi or Rios get any closure? Will we see Will and Deanna again? What's going to happen with Seven and her XBs?

That's a lot to wrap up in one episode, on top of the incoming Romulan attack... let's see how they do.

I'm betting the season finale will be all incomprehensible space battle. Nothing will be resolved. That's for season 2. I bet they'll shoehorn in some way to cure him. They don't have the balls to kill him or leave him senile. The new Soong, I'm guessing, is who he appears to be. Apparently Noonian got around. I'm more or less fine with it. I'll be very surprised if Troi or Riker come back.

I dunno. They did that before in Discovery, with Spock's hitherto-unknown human sister. Would they pull that again with Data, having a hitherto-unknown human brother? He comes across very like Lore too, doing that whole charismatic demagoguery thing. Surely Lore's component parts must have ended up at Daystrom at some point after he was disassembled at the end of Descent?

They've confirmed 2 more seasons of Picard, so they're going to have to do something to make sure he's alive that long!

I think this new Soong is there because Patrick Stewart and 71 year old Brent Spiner are friends and Data makeup is hard for a man his age to endure.

Did anyone else but me think it was a stupid move to give the Rios/engineer a scottish/irish accent? It only illustrated how dissatisfying Rios is as a character. To the writers... make up your mind who hes going to be and maybe we might give a crap about him.

Thanks...on the app now (via Roku)...it's a 1-Month trial (free). Still gotta sign-up, though.
I'll probably do it. All the glowing reviews here for this show has pushed me over the precipice.
:p

So what do you think?
Well...the visuals are very nice.
Still with open mind, although-
The Romulans are anti-AI, correct?
I remember a similar attitude from Dune...touched on in Book 1, eventually explained in more detail by the Frank Herbert-wannabes that came up with the back story. :)

Back to Epi 2...I did hear the F-word + a GD-it. Roddenberry help us!
My take on the Romulans & AI. They're so arrogant they believe the only foe worthy of taking them down is a non-biological "being"?
Anyway, FME, it takes about 4 episodes for something to take a hold in me.
I'll continue. What the Hell else is there to do?

Yes, despite there never having ever been any mention of Romulan anti-AI sentiments, and a few lines of dialogue in previous series to suggest otherwise, they're apparently super anti AI in this show. This attitude will be explained, sort of, in later episodes. It is very visually appealing. Discovery looked great too. Can't fault them for that.

This is an actual quote from a synopsis of Episode 9. It reads to me like computer-generated nonsense.

“The last thing we saw was the brave crew of La Sirena flying into a Borg transwarp conduit en route to the Vayt sector, in the Ghulion system, but unbeknownst to them, Narek was in hot pursuit in a Romulan Snakehead class scout ship.”

Ten minutes into the season finale and there are already so many things wrong. Rios and Rafi have a thing that fixes anything with the power of imagination that was given to them by a person named Saga. Who is Saga? Did I miss Saga? Then Rios hears a sound he says he knows. Turns out it's Romulan guy outside the ship throwing rocks at the view screen. Has Rios heard the sound of someone throwing rocks at his ship? On the ground? That's the sound he recognized? There's a good chance that ship has never been on any ground. Then they call Romulan guy snake head. Snake head is a derogatory term for Cardassians, not Romulans, although snake head is apparently a name of a Romulan scout ship as well as a derogatory term for Romulans. It's still not as bad as DIS, but my god, it's just awful.

Oh and I'm glad people who are enjoying it are enjoying it. Woo hoo.
