Star Trek: Picard

@JimK don't read this.

Did they rush Data's wig? It was crooked and the wrong color. Good thing there was an android body ready for a mind just when Picard's body crapped out. Once again, new Star Trek conquers death. Khan's magic blood in JJ trek. Android bodies and perfect mind transfer. Some yada yada'd simulation, sorry, quantum simulation (gotta be quantum) where consciousnesses can live forever. They love conquering death. And I guess new Soong is gonna start mass producing these golems? Cuz I'll take one. It's apparently made of meat and you have the option for super powers and immortality, or not. I'd start with a few hundred years and consider renewal later on.

Episode 10 is easily the best of the season. The last 15 minutes are moving and very well done. Almost made me forget the tedium that preceded it. ;)

“Looking forward to Season 2 with renewed cautious optimism.”

You didn’t see Seven and Raffi holding hands at the end, while laughing and drinking?

They were!

I read your post before the punch-in...it's OK, I'm good. :)

I've loved every minute of the show, until they almost inexplicably
replace JL with an android!
I was sure they were going to use their synthetic-person technology to fix his brain, not use Dr. Soong's golem to create a whole new person.

Did we ever get a clear shot of what the golem actually looked like?
It was a generally humanoid shaped veiny thing with no defining features.

I thought about the finalé off-&-on over the weekend & I'm not happy with how they deus ex machina the golem for JL.
What sucks for me is that Troi foreshadowed them using Synth tech. to fix Picard's brain when she told her son's story, but they threw that out & went with this lame-o end, non-augmented, mortal android, what's the point of that?!
Well, I know it's so JL can live on, but I still think it's kinda lame & stupid writing.

Oh yeah, & Data explained the importance of Mortality, but it's just their way of ending the Data character & the need for their special-effects makeover for Brent to play the character.

I wouldn't be surprised if the writers just forgot about the idea of human diseases being cured by a positronic matrix. Instead they had this empty shell of an android that was coincidentally ready for a mind upload. I'm not sure what the purpose of the golem was to begin with. I think the new Soong was gonna put his mind in it. But there's no reason he can't make another one. Or a few million of them. Like I said earlier, if you can have an Android body with or without immortality and super powers, I'm sure the demand for them will skyrocket.

I'm 1/2 way thru now.
Little parts remind me of other Sci-Fi...or maybe it's just me-

The Romulan ninja nuns & the male (Elnor)?
> The Bene Gesserit and Paul Atriedes from Dune

Elnor?
> Reminds me of Legolas/Elrond from Tolkien

7 of 9 a "Ranger"?
> Reminds me of Strider from Tolkien

I am not the purist that Gorn is...thank God for purists, though...anyway, I don't hate it. Watching to see how it develops.

(I did not open youse guys' Spoilers). :)

What are your thoughts on the other series? Have you seen them all? Did you like TNG?

Overall, while I enjoyed the series, and can "look past" the issues... I think they could've done a lot better. I wonder how much compression the 10 episode "seasons" place on creators/writers/producers.

Sir Patrick Stewart absolutely carried things. To get on my own high horse, I think these more classically aligned actors and actresses who come up from traditional theatre just have something that really lets them excel.

I just watched the behind the scenes where Wil Wheaton was talking to Patrick Stewart, and I had to stop it, because the only acceptable answer was, "shut up Wesley!" and I knew he wasn't going to say it.

Instead of the interview, I watched, "Encounter at Far Point," which I remember thinking I didn't much care for. Imagine my surprise at enjoying it thoroughly!

Watched TOS in the '60s. Like it a lot, ahead of its time. Formy wife, TOS is the only Star Trek.
Love TNG (after Season 1). My favourite ST Series.
Like DS9 a lot...though not watched as much as TOS & TNG. That's on me.
Voyager...a few decent episodes. Watched it every week during its run.
Enterprise...only watched a handful. I have read a few episode summaries, however. Seemed like they had some interesting plot lines.
I own the animated Series (when it was a more difficult to find show). I probably watched that as a kid.

I have not watched Discovery.
I am a big Patrick Stewart fan...since CBS is giving a free month, I figured "Why, not"?
