Steinberger Club

Steinberger World was where I got my info years ago also. I knew it was true when a collector here in Atlanta beat me up with outrageous offers for mine. Value seems to fluctuate all the time. I've seen them go for as little as about $2300. Honestly,I wouldn't take less than $3000 and that would be me feeling generous because at times you see black XL's pulling $2200 and more.It just depends on how bad someone wants one. The great thing about them is a nearly unlimited shelflife! As long as you don't keep them in a too hot environment they could possibly stay perfect forever!

Yes it's heavy. The problem is, that I don't have a good scale to weigh it. I see what I can do.

Gruesse, Pablo

I weigh them by standing on my bathroom scales with and without the bass.

Mine was around 12-13 pounds. Extremely heavy, especially on 4 hour gigs.

Wow, that is heavy. I have a bad back, so will refrain from buying one and stick with the L2.

Its always a surprise to people who pick up my L2 and feel how heavy it is.

I got my new XL2 today, an eBay win.

Dead neck pickup, unfortunately but I have a pair of HB IVs in a drawer here, so I'll sort that no worries.

Its a 1988 model, serial number in the 5xxx range, but really clean. Pics to follow!

:)

I think it has to do with the way the strap wraps around you and the pivot plate kind of sucks into you. This was the first thing I noticed when I first strapped mine on in 83. They don't want to push away from your body at all. If I had a regular bass that weighed as much as my Bergs I know my shoulder would be crying.

The perfect balance was the first thing that struck me, when I played one in '84. I'd been playing an Ibanez Musician, which was very heavy and it almost felt weightless in comparison. Of course then I played it and after getting past playing an A when I wanted a G, due to the peripheral vision thing being thrown, the sound was perfect.

I played a Steinberger bass at the music show in Sydney, in '84. It made such an impression, that I put the pick I'd used to play it, in a container with a note saying not to use it until I owned a Steinberger bass! I found the case/pick and have had it waiting until today, when the bass arrived. Not bad; keeping it for 27 years! I guess it's the musician version of 'I'll never wash [body part] again'.

Has anyone bought replacement bridge jaws from bgstainless dotcom? They registered here about a year and a half ago and advertised a bit. The website's still up, I was just wondering if anyone was still behind the wheel, and if anyone here had experience with them.

I just had a bridge failure a few hours before soundcheck :( Fortunately I had spare parts, but now I'm looking to re-stock, and they're the only outfit besides Ed Roman I can find that carries bridge parts.

I just picked some up a few months ago. Don is a great guy and saved my ass when my "A" string jaw broke in the middle of recording sessions. He rushed the part out to me and even included instructions with pics of how to disassemble the bridge and install the new part. I highly recommend bgstainless over that Las Vegas maniac who wanted to charge me $75 for the original(pot metal) jaw and $35 dollars to ship it to me... yes, seriously.

I bought four replacement tuning claws for my XL from BGStainless. The claws are well-machined, work flawlessly, and the folks there are *very* friendly and helpful.
