Yep - that's the one! Not sure what happened to that poor XQ body but I felt bad for it! Then the opportunity to get another bass materialized so I traded it in. With regards to that bass, the neck/frets are fine, but it has Spirit hardware - not OEM Steinberger (the bridge assembly says it's "licensed by Steinberger" and the saddles are missing the steel inserts) and it has the pickups and preamp out of a Peavey Cirrus! Again - if only that bass could talk - it wasn't terrible sounding, but it needed a pot replaced and I wasn't able to find one (even after contacting Peavey). I moved on.

My guitar player just sent this to me! Took Gibson long enough - it will be interesting to see what they come up with! Wow, can't believe it's been that long since Ned started NS Designs! Sure wish I would have kept my XQ4 and XM4TA guitar. :banghead:

Cutting-Edge and Gibson are probably the ultimate guitar product oxymoron.
But seriously, Gibson has a history of bungling Steinberger over and over again. I'm not optimistic. It'll either be lousy and expensive, or wonderful and hideously expensive. If anyone could do Steinberger right, it's still ultimately NBE.

Maybe a new bass at some point, since Ned started with a bass design? Doesn't make any mention of a new bass in this press release, but hey, we can hope!

NS Design has not done anything new with their bass line in a while. I almost fell for a red WAV bass guitar a few years ago when they were selling them on Reverb. Glad I didn't now. The WAVs overlap pretty exactly with the Synapses, of which I have two.

It will be interesting to see what this new collaboration brings about.

For NS Design, the only thing remotely new is their Sweetwater exclusives for their 5 string lineup. Other than that, I always recommend the NXT4A or CR4 basses from NS.

Sadly there’s not much coverage on the NXT4A however, I am in the works of having that solved with a crustacean I linked with at NAMM to make it happen. I honestly wish people knew more about the NS Design brand, they’re really the best to communicate with and the best to be a part of their family.

I hear ya. I’m sure a gun case or other case will work, but with a van packed to the gills with PA gear I’d like something form fitting that I can just throw in without worrying about it.

From all the video demos I've seen, these Steinberger Spirit basses sound really good. I wonder if the neck profile is the same as the originals. The one I tried in the early 90's, had a thick ball bat neck. Not what I would have expected from a bass with a composite neck.

1.5" nut, more of a D than a C shape so similar to a standard Jazz but just a little thicker front to back.
