If it plays like my other Stingrays, I'm all in! 8lbs or 10lbs, quality is quality. More shoulder shrugs at the gym people.

Sterling Ball on the New Stingrays

I'm also wondering about this. I prefer the Sterling body size. Would be nice if they made lighter versions.
Yeah that’s the reason. Shrugs. Couldn’t be spinal issues or neck injuries. Nah that couldn’t be it.
Yeah, know the deal. I have a herniated disc C-4/C-5. Settle down Francis.
I'm sure we will do the Sterling at some point, just not in the immediate future.
Now that is something to look forward to. Especially if it’s an HS!
I've never had an issue with the weight of my StingRay, its part of what that bass is. I have a couple basses that are light. A solid Koa bodied Carvin and one of the short scale headless Kiesel's. Their light weight is a byproduct of what they are but its not the reason I bought them. I'm sure the new StingRay's are nice, and I like the 18 volt preamp.
I noodled around on a newer MM Caprice bass at GC recently, has this same new bridge. I like the bass allot but not a fan of the bridge at all. If I bought it, it would be only knowing going into it that I'd be looking at a bridge replacment in short order.
My SR5 is a flawless instrument, has never needed any upgrades whatsoever. Wide range of tones, can go nice and mellow, woody, or an old school thump; to a modern bright and full tone or snarly and mean. I've always liked that big solid bridge. I'm sure it adds to the weight but its not much of an issue for me.
Yeah I've got a back injury too. L5/S1 herniated back in 1996. Never had surgery, I learned how to cope with it and how to take care of it. Stay fit, moderate exercise and know your limits.

These are beasts!! The neck is perfect, perfect, perfect. Screwing around I found two "hidden" sounds on the 5H that I don't remember from the previous electronics. Go to the front most selector position and hit a note, as you're listening move the selector toward the middles position. You'll hear a small "click" in between. It will be a different tone than the other three positions. Same thing with in between positions 1 and 2. Those two "hidden" sounds have more bottom and less top end, lots of grunt. Wish I knew what exactly was going on with it. Probably not possible to wire up a five way selector to gain those two hidden sounds, but they're definitely useful.

I've been using my Caprice and Cutlass a lot lately (like - all the time) and have failed to notice any shortcomings or drawbacks with the bridge(s). Is it just that you prefer the look of the old bridge?
I have to say - Sterling Ball is one charismatic mofo. Cool to see the owner always fronting up for this sort of thing.
New basses look sweet too - if they've rebooted the 3 band eq I think a lot of people will start moving to Stingrays.

I hate having this conversation but everyone's situation is different. What works for you might not work for other people and vice versa. EBMM is offering lighter weight basses in response (I'm sure) from their customers for a lighter weight bass. This is something a lot of people need and/or prefer. I don't see them stopping production of heavy Stingrays so I am sure that if someone wants to buy a heavy Stingray, they will find no shortage of options.
I just find it a crappy thing to say. Like if this was a bird watching forum and people started a thread about glasses. And then someone jumps in and says "if you just ate more carrots and take your vitamins you wouldn't need glasses!" Like who TF asked you what I need? I think people who say heavy guitars sound better are silly but it's something to discuss. What someone's personal pain experience is, is not something to criticize.

Yes, the new colors look good, I like the cruz teal and the aqua looks good. Is there a photo of an aqua bass? The picture of the jet black 4 string looks sharp, too.
