Wow! Really nice! I was thinking of adding a J pup at the neck to give the bass some roundness. It's a little 'honky' with the MM p/u alone but mine plays nice. I agree about the string tension. It takes some getting used to. I don't get how folks play jazz basses above the bridge p/u! Tension is even more there.

I usually play there when I am playing very fast eighth or sixteenth notes.

transmutation done :D

Dude, your bass looks so sick! Just what I am currently planning on my walnut (black hardwares).
I know its too much but. Can you please link me up to the actual eBay item, like for the Machineheads, Control Plate and Bridge. I saw the UK sellers page that you linked but I can't see the black control plate.

Also with the machineheads, did you get the ones for fender style (4x top mounted) coz if you do that the G string at the bottom would have its screw mounting plates face the other way.

Did you drill new holes to fit all those hardwares (tuner, bridge, control plate)

Sorry for all the questions but I've been planning to change to black hardwares like yours and you're the only one who braved to do it so far.... So yeah, Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sub'd. I'm anxious to see how people are tricking theirs out.

I just picked up a Honeyburst Ray4, and I'm thinking of doing a refin to Green Metallic with Black hardware....

..So long, moneys...:hyper:

EDIT: Anyone know what the finish is on these (or the honeyburst, in particular)? I'm trying to get an idea of what I will need to do to prep it for refinishing. According to ReRanch, it sounds like I don't have to totally strip the finish...

Does anyone (SBMM perhaps?) know if it is possible to order the Sterling (not SUB) as a special order with the alternate fretboard choice? I would like either the natural or sunburst, but I'm not really a fan of a maple FB.

My local GC had a surf green one. Awesome color in person, but it was a mess. Twisted (not bowed) neck, scratchy electronics, and a horrific popping sound (not the amp or wire, I tried a few). This obviously isn't the case for every one of them, but it was sad to see such abused, brand new bass.

That seems to be the case w/ about 50% of GC's stock, regardless of manufacturer....

That too, but I was in the store the day before and it wasn't there. Either SBMM shipped it out like that, which in my experience wouldn't be that far fetched, but more likely the GC employees manhandled it and put it out for sale.

I do not have one, but I played one in the Round Rock GC and it was simply amazing. It seemed strange having a well setup bass with snappy strings new in a GC. It was brown so maybe people weren't picking it up? Beats me, but for the price it was easily the best deal they had on a bass in the store.

Mechanics are Hipshot ultralight, it is posible to order them for bass or treble side separetly, but also it is possible to reasambly them and switch it ;) .. and the 1/2 inch ones fit to these MM holes not perfectly but well.. contol plate fits exactly, the bridge fits some how 3 of 5 holes fits but side holes of that 3 in line are too close to each other about 2mm.. but is posible to use them...
anout the seller i dont know once i checked it and it was there onece it was not..

I've had mine for 2 months. It sounds awesome but I rest my thumb on the pickup to play finger style and I just can't get used to it because the string tension is so high that close to the bridge. I'm selling mine.

Why not add a thumb rest where you like to play? I had a Stingray back in the day and I took a peace of plastic and glued it to the pickguard. It went from the pickup to the neck and was a perfect fix.

Nice one! Thanks Sm3rk

Just purchased a mint green from GC (shipped to me). Simply amazing!! The neck is so comfortable - and the sounds it produces are powerful and articulate. The craftsmanship is very good overall. The only issue I have with it that the strings do not align properly with the pickup poles. They are off-centered - most noticeably on the G string. The nut and the bridge are aligned perfectly because you can see how the spacing on from the edge of the neck to the E and the edge of the neck to the G are perfect. The pick up itself is not positioned properly. I thought I might be able to adjust it somewhat, but I can't find a tool that will even adjust the height of the pickup. It looks like the three screws would turn with a simple small phillips head screwdriver, but nothing is able to turn them yet! The two tools that come with it - a truss rod pole and the saddle adjuster work fine for what they were intended to do.
Bottom line, it plays, sounds, and looks great! And if I never can adjust the pick-up, so be it, I am still extremely happy with this instrument. I have been playing bass for the past eight years, and own several basses. For me, this is the best all-around bass I have had - and I love my other basses ( Fender P, Carvin B4, Ibanez 505).

Time for some help from all of you here. What colors would you like to see us add to the SUB Bass line for 2014?
SHELL PINK PLEASE! black or white pickguard and maple fretboard... are the mint only available to buy thru musiciansfriends? i cant see to find them on amazon, witch is the only store I can buy from since Im in latin america..
