Stingray 5 Club!

I can see that.

Not to talk you into or out of anything, but I kind of like how the binding accentuates the outline of the neck, matches the white nut (which you could, of course, replace with a black one), and highlights the blocks.

That’s a tough one. With the black hardware, you can make a good case for doing it. But the neck kind of has its own vibe. Plus, this is a BFR, a special edition bass, and modifying could likely have an even bigger impact on its value than modding a standard model bass. That, of course, only matters if you’d ever sell it.

Like I said, not trying to talk you into or out of anything. Just throwing some thoughts out there.

Hello to all! In the middle, there is my new bass - MM SR5 from 1990 year. Alnico pickup with early rectangle preamp board. This bass is a truly beast!

Late to the game and minimal skin in it.
Glad to see an EBMMSR5 exclusive (?) club.
Picked up this beauty Christmas '17 and she's been my main gigging bass ever since.
Sharing the spotlight alongside my '98 Modulus Quantum5 (different tonal application).
Ernie Ball MusicMan SR5HP MFG Feb 20 '08 ceramic w dummy coil and Piezo bridge pu.
Capable of a wide range of tones from aggressive MM growl to modern scooped slap tones.
Usually run it in the series position and season to taste with the Piezo.
At 10.8lbs not a light weight but worth every ounce, hung from a 4.5" Levy padded strap.
Played Barbie dress up with different pickguards but settled on the WD Music custom
Rosewood embellishment. I have two other vintage Rays but they're closet queens.
Some beautiful SR's in this thread. I'll try to view as time permits. Ya'll have a prosperous
New Year. M.

That is a real beauty!!

Thanks. After having acquired the '76 Stingray and '88 Ernie Ball Ray, and not particularly attracted to the Silhouette design, I was actually shopping for a black Classic StingRay 5, accidentally came across this NOS pristine SR5 w case candy and fell in love. Now I can see why so many in the professional industry choose the SR5.

Stunning collection. Love the matching straps. BFR is the Holy Grail.
Not sure if I’d actually do it since I have enough basses at this point (seriously, five is plenty), but I’ve occasionally considered adding a Classic 5 at some point in the future.

However, you made a really good point about the BFRs. I might have to change my hazy, nebulous plan from getting a Classic to getting either a Classic or a BFR - and lean toward a BFR.

That ceramic SR5 will cover all the bases. Love the MESA (sorry for the derail).

No argument about the ceramic SR5s. My 2007 SR5HH has covered every playing situation I’ve used it in since I bought it. It’s been my #1.

That being said, my SR Special 5HH has also done an equally good job in every situation I’ve used it in. It’s just that I’ve only had it for about eight months so far. It has a different basic tonal character, but it’s equally versatile and overlaps a lot with my ceramic. But … it is a Stingray! ;)

I'd be proud to sport that 2019 Stingray Special 5HH. Exquisite. And Tort to boot!

As far as "I have enough basses at this point (seriously, five is plenty),"
Only reason I'm at eleven is between the SR and Mod as drivers,
I'm saving for more Holy Grail/ museum pieces. There's a club for us.

OK team, who makes the snuggest fitting and best looking stingray 5 pick guards in all the land?*

*not a rhetorical question.

For my monies: Invalid Link Removed (the Rosewood custom fit above)
For all others: Home - Pickguard Planet (below)

In either case, let them know the serial# and all details (ceramic/alnico)
so you don't have to send it back like I did on the Tort.
