Stingray 5 Club!

I've never used Hi Beams, so I can't answer that question. But I can say that you're quite nicely equipped with that combination of bass, head, and cabs! Love my Special 5!

Black basses aren't really my thing, but the Smoked Chrome and the Charcoal Sparkle are different enough from a plain black that I really like them a lot.

My primary gigging head is a D-800+ and I love it. Tons of power, very flexible EQ, and a great overall feature set. I use a pair of Barefaced Big Baby 2's that I love, but have always been curious about the Subway cabinets. They seem really well designed and would be high on my list of cabs to consider if I didn't already have the BB2s.

Great overall rig that you've got there!

When I bought the SR5, all I was looking for was a 5-string bass that had a 34" scale, a good low-B, and a neck that I didn't hate. Based on specs alone, the SR5 appeared to meet my needs.

My objective with the SR5 (or any 5-string, for that matter) was to just have a 5-string that I could use when I needed one. If I didn't need it, I would just play my 4-string Fenders. Well...

The SR5 plays and sounds so good, that it has become my #1 (by a long shot!). I never thought I would find a 5-string bass that would become my primary bass, but here I am.

Currently strung with DR Hi Beams 45-130. Has anyone ever used the Hi Beam 125 B-string on their SR5, and if so, how does it sound?

PS: That Mesa rig ain't too bad either!
I play DR fat beams 45-125! Mine works really nicely and sounds great. Full disclosure I have usually run a 130 on the B in the past but my Stingray is an older one for a 5 string and I wanted to keep running the same gauges the bass was used to. When I bought my bass I was worried the truss rod was nearly maxed out, now I know it isn’t so I could throw a 130 on but I really have no complaints about the DR 125.

I ran Hi-beams on my Fender Jazz V. I had the mediums and the B was too floppy for my liking. Got a .130 on the B and it was great. Not a stingray, but it is 34"

I use either 45-125 EB Slinky Flats, or 45-125 DR Fatbeams(basically Hi Beams will a bit more bottom. Zero issue with the .125 B!

Finally got to play my new Classic with my Genz Benz setup. Did a sound check with my wireless and cut through the mix easily.

I've posted it in some other related clubs already, but i can't believe I haven't to post my newest addition in THIS club yet. Let me fix that. :D

I've owned a Honey Burst 2007 SR5HH for quite a long time and it has been my favorite bass since buying it. But, about a month ago, I added a Vintage Tobacco Burst 2019 Stingray Special 5HH to my collection and have really been enjoying it. So far I've used it on two gigs as well as a few basement jams and I'm really impressed by it. I also like that it has a warmer, less aggressive tone than my 2007. They complement each other really well.

My slinky flats have purple silk at the top, which looks awesome against the birds-eye roasted maple headstock and black tuners. Did you strip it off of your strings, or is the pic from a prior period?

Pic is from before the flats were on.

But oddly enough, the EB Slinky Flats are built differently than most. Every set of flats I have ever used had no space between the windings. The EB flats have space between the ribbon wind.

Here's the EB Slinky Flats:

I think the Ernie Ball Slinky ( formerly known as Cobalt ) flats are the prefect match to a StingRay Special. You know them by their purple wraps and cobalt winding.
Not to be confused with their Group flats.

Yes..the Cobalt flats tame some of the "honk" from the bridge only position and they sound great. Still plenty of bite on the top end. They really are very very good strings.

Yes, my arm-hair is well aware of those spaces.
