Stingray aftermarket 2 band pre

hey johnk_10,

what kind of pots are you using? mfg/value/taper?
...and the rotary switch?
trying to source parts for my own preamp.

i already had some NOS CTS ones. 25KA for the volume, 1M reverse audio for the treble, and 100K audio for the bass control, but i also have used alpha's mini pots and they work great too.

i got the rotary switch from Marvac electronics.

IMO, a 25K linear give a smoother and more useable taper for the volume pot, so i bought some NOS CTS ones off of ebay.

We got boards:

I'm buried in day-job this weekend, but I'll catch up on PMs and post details over the coming week.

Beauties! even better than the first ones. i just may have to get a few more of them from you.

nice work!

Thanks :) I fixed the strain relief hole size problem from the first batch and added a screen print.

I've had a bunch of PMs already - thanks all for the interest. There will be a store front in the classifieds in a day or two with all the details.

OK, I've set up store over in the classifieds for everything to do with exchanging beer tokens for PCBs so this thread can focus on building and playing.

I owe a lot of people PM replies - I'll get on them over this week.

TB classified ad for boards here.

PMs replied to - sorry for the delay.

While looking back through the old PMs I was reminded that I'd promised to post the board layout file. It's in Invalid Link Removed format and is small enough to be editable using the free version.

(edit: Rapidshare link removed, check post #454 below)

While waiting for my boards ( see your PM uncleF ).I'm about to buy my different parts, and I get a bit lost in all the different products.
For this building, what do I need in term of Voltage, Tolerance, cause there's a lot of choice and narrowing down a bit could be helpful.
Does it matter a lot or can I go with whatever got 1uF written on it ?

Pardon the noob question on IC Sockets. I see that there are 60 x 8 pin DIP IC Sockets and 40 x 8 pin DIP IC Sockets on Ebay. What is the difference between the two or does it make any, when building the MM preamp? Any info or links for purchasing the opamp and sockets would be appreciated. Thanks for your experience.

the "60" and "40" is referring to the quantity, not a measurement spec. I would get gold plated for maximum signal transfer.

Update: For those who didn't see it in the other thread, johnk_10 pointed out that I'd made a mistake in the screen print.

The capacitor marked with the red * is printed the wrong way around. The + should be on the left (closer to the big holes).

As far as I know there's nothing wrong electrically and the boards should still be completely usable. I'm still very sorry about this error and any confusion caused, and will cheerfully give a refund to anyone who PMs me asking for one.
