The pawn shop is going to get a visit from the Detectives that helped me yesterday. They are probably going to get a hefty fine for not checking the serials thoroughly enough.
That's awesome!! After this long, I thought (as I'm sure many others did) that it was long gone, never to return.

It would be cool, though, if they could track down the douche who originally stole it.
Thanks Ryan! Yeah the detectives are going to investigate this and start with that pawn shop in Gwinnett. They are also going to get my Dbl leather Low End back as well... grant, I really don't need two of those bags.

Actually I'm thinking about swapping it back to B-G tuning and bringing it to my cover gig (in Gwinnett ironically) this evening.

Well, that's the funny thing, I will need to sell one of my basses, but I'm not sure which. The SCD5 came back and I have a strong bond with it, almost more beautiful than I remember. My Nordy is like every bass I have ever owned, wrapped up in one instrument and is one of the most perfect studio basses... The SCD6 has really opened up stuff for me harmonically and melodically and I'm beginning to love playing a 6.
Jai, that's AWESOME!And to get it back in great shape as well...I had a feeling it hadn't gone far, but wasn't sure it'd turn up, due to its uniqueness. But to get it back again, and in pretty much the same shape as when it disappeared- man, that's amazing!

As for the 2 Bennies, I'm going to take my time deciding what to do. So, most likely I'll have both of them, when you are in town visiting the family. You are absolutely free to play any bass I own.

Congrats on getting the bass back. I'm in East Cobb and play/teach bass full-time. I couldn't find an insurance company to cover my stuff at home for the longest time. Pros don't get coverage by traditional insurance companies under homeowners. I know, I've tried with many companies.
Finally guitarist Steve Rieck hipped me onto promusicinsurance.com. They cover pros. Whether your equipment is ripped off at home or on the road, they're supposed to cover.
Luckily, I haven't needed to file a claim. I've been with them for almost two years and the fees are reasonable.
I've only gotten a bit of feedback on them from a couple people who say they are pretty good.

I have Heritage music insurance and it is $250 for $25k of coverage. This is on a boat, on a plane, internationally... so, when I leave to go on tour next week, I'm covered.

Here's an idea/suggestion. A device may already be on the market. What is the feasibility/possibility of having a GPS tracking device installed in these high end basses or bass cases? Seems to me it would be well worth the cost. Manufactures should offer it as an option. I'll be researching this. Hope the bass is recovered

One thing I'd suggest for people reading is to get your name somewhere on the custom bass. On a few basses, my name is inlaid somewhere on the fingerboard, the rest usually indicate that the bass was made for me and finished over. Of course, there's the risk that it won't be as easy for you to sell if you get tired of the bass, but I don't plan on selling a custom bass when I order it.
That's exactly what I was thinking... it was just a matter of time.
I also think it's possible that the person who pawned it didn't have to be the person who stole it and unlike TB, the rest of the world knows very little if anything about Beneventes. It's quite possible to look up the bass and find the standard lower end model they build and give a valuation based on that. So I'd go easy on the pitchforks until the facts are ascertained

Hell yea Jai!!!! Sooo glad you got it back. Regardless of cost of custom builds its pretty regular to see them used at shops or pawnshops for $1000 bucks on up. Customs don't have the draw, they just cost alot to make. Either way Back to Jai Im so glad you got it back.
On a bass like this I would think pics would suffice. It's not like it's possible to have another one just like it. That top is like a fingerprint.
I know the feeling of getting contacted out of the blue about a bass you didn't think you'd see again... it's pretty damned sweet
A friend of mine saw my bass on a website and emailed me. The person who consigned it wasn't the one who stole my bass. This is why putting the word out, especially here on TB, is so important wehen someone rips you off.

Very true, although I'd suspect it would be hard for a guy named Frank to sell a bass with John's name on it. Might appropriately raise a few important questions, not that some pawn shops would care.

This story is even crazier than the one a few months ago (forgot the original poster) about the bass that someone regretted selling in the US and it somehow ended up in Iceland. Not sure if he ever got around to buying it back.
