Actually Chris the cops are looking into it and will get the other leather dbl bag back to me this weekend.
Man, I remember when we were at the Indy NAMM in '05 and that Bennie got lifted from your booth. Man, I saw fire coming from your eyes... probably the most scared of you I have been since I've known you.
Haha. That's funny. Yeh, I kinda have a beef with people who steal. If they'd put half the thought into something positive that they do trying to get by easy, they wouldn't have to resort to stealing. I hope they catch this guy. If I lived down there, I'd hope they'd catch him before I did....
Ok, so the detective and I just got off of the phone.... now I know even more about our friend that stole my bass.
Apparently, 5 days after my bass was stolen from the venue I was playing at, the thief (who now I know his name and what he looks like) sold my to the pawn shop. It has been SITTING there for OVER a YEAR!!!! And the messed up and faulty reporting system that the GA pawn desk has, never detected that this was stolen. The pawn shop never sent the serial number in on the pawn ticket!
So, this evening on my way to my cover gig, I'm going to meet up with the detective to go to that pawn shop and get my leather dbl bag back.

That's sweet that you've rwrapped up that part of the mystery that quickly. How does anything like that just"sit" at a pawnshop? They have some explaining to do.
I'll be at that pawn shop this evening before my gig and I'll be asking him myself.

Incredible. It just SAT THERE? Doesn't anyone frequent pawn shops any more? I always look out for stolen gear that I know about.
I'd have a suspicion that it just "sat there for over a year" kinda in the back room kinda behind a bunch of boxes of crap, far out of sight, because the pawn shop kinda knew it was kinda hot.......
That may be pretty big assumption or a stretch, at the least. You have to keep in mind that generally people looking for high end instruments are generally not going to be going to pawn shops looking for stuff. A $100 beater guitar yes...A high end custom instrument no. So, I can easily see how this could sit there for that long. The average person looking for an instrument in a pawn shop is not looking to spend anywhere near the $1000 it sold for. Regardless of how much it was really worth. Again, most people looking in the pawn shop would have no idea it was worth that much money.
Wasn't there a thread a while back about someone picking up a Sadowsky Metro for $150 at a pawn shop in NYC. And, it was not stolen. You can only assume the shop just thought they had another Fender knock off.
At least they gave up his name.. if they know what he looks like, I would guess that he is there often.. hence they probably knew it was hot. If you need some help...
Ok... well, I'm not going to pick the DBL leather bag up today, the detective needs to be there with me and he is tied up in court doing to the warrant proceedings.
So, I took it on my own to call the pawn shop and find out if the contents of the gig bag are there and was very rudely spoken to by the owner of the pawn shop. He was very defensive and knowingly has a great degree of guilt in the matter. Told me that he will not talk to me about this matter, only to the Dekalb county police and rudely hung up on me.
That being said, I'm going to let y'all know which shady pawn shop took my bass in:

Oh BTW, the thief got $300 for selling my bass to this pawn shop. They turned around and sold it for $1000 to the guy we recovered it back from. This is a bass that cost $4,300 to have built!!!!
