This is an incredible ending. That's awesome that you got your bass back. I remember reading this thread when it was stolen, or maybe another thread. I also remember another Benevente that was stolen here in Ohio that had a happy ending too, also in a very similar way. I'm sure you're happy to have it back.

Congrats, jairaj! I remember when this bass was stolen, I can't believe it's been over a year! Really glad to hear it's still in very good condition. I think this serves as a great example--if your bass does get stolen, don't give up hope, keep spreading the word through your friends and bass brothers.

As much as I think it's cool you got your bass back, don't get too agressive trying to get everything back. The law is working for you at this point and it looks as if you are going to come out in favor in this matter.
There is no law that states the pawn shop owner can't thrash what's left and say they received it that way.
Play it cool, you know where your stuff is, let the system get it back now.

Actually Chris the cops are looking into it and will get the other leather dbl bag back to me this weekend.
Man, I remember when we were at the Indy NAMM in '05 and that Bennie got lifted from your booth. Man, I saw fire coming from your eyes... probably the most scared of you I have been since I've known you.
i remember that, that was crazy. what a jerkoff that guy was.
While that may be generally true it's not even close with the folks I know... they look for everything. I just bought a like new 1995 US Spector NS-5 last month. The thing about pawnshops is, especially in this economy, you never know what someone might pawn.
I think the point was that this bass wasn't on the floor until recently. It was in the back. I can't imagine that bass sitting at any pawnshop anywhere in the US on the floor and listed at $1k for very long.
Now I have no doubt that the pawnshop knew it was stolen. Not sure how they police shops there but up here the full force of the law would come down on them... hard.
ok, here is the thief that was on the pawn ticket that the police are looking for:
Kerry (or Carey) Kenyatta Griffin
6 foot 4, 250 pounds, African american and about 36 years old... Can't find a mug shot of him, but he is no stranger being arrested from what I have been told.

I wish I could say it's a "happy ending", but my sympathies now shift to the guy that's out $1000. And if the pawn shop is honest, it's out $300.
The theif is +$300 and at worst he'll get ... what ... 0 days in jail and he's already got a criminal record (I presume if, as you say, he's no stranger to being arrested) so why should he care?
What a crooked system. Kinda encourages the theif, IMO.
On top of it all, the gov't counts this is "growth" so they can pretend all's well economically. Cops get paid, courts get paid, theif spends his $300 at the bar so they get paid, people get paid to replace your broken window, Benavente gets paid to make another bass (a good thing, granted) ... but there's still at least 1 victim of the theft and maybe 2 if the pawn shop is honest, plus all your inconveniece.
Is there any concept of restituion for stuff like this in the system?
Like maybe in order to get out on bail the thief also has to pay the victims back along with posting bail? Or maybe he has to work weekends for a year picking up garbage at the parks or whatever? Seems like a win/win situation for the theif as-is. IMO.
