Stolen Benavente SCD5 - Atlanta

Ok, all i have to say is DAMN!

I went to see J-raj at his gig last night. He had THE bass and better yet, he invited me to sit in with the band and fumble my way through playing THE bass. It is a beauty, the pics don't do it justice and it's a dream to play - even for 4-stringer like me.

If i had that bass and it was stolen, i'm not sure what lengths i'd go to. But i'd probably start with a subscription to Soldier of Fortune magazine and see where that took me. ;)

Ok, I exagerate a little, but will the GAS ever fade? I've been perfectly happy playing cheap basses for years - almost proud. But now, will I ever be the same? :hmm:

ahhhh... jk.

Thanks J-raj, you're a class guy and watching you solo on it with your eyes closed and head tilted back, it just looked RIGHT. ...and sounded great.

Very cool indeed.

ok, here is the thief that was on the pawn ticket that the police are looking for:

Kerry (or Carey) Kenyatta Griffin
6 foot 4, 250 pounds, African american and about 36 years old... Can't find a mug shot of him, but he is no stranger being arrested from what I have been told.

thats a big dude! don't run up on him by yourself:eyebrow:

Yeah man, not going to seek that thief out at all myself... He has a court hearing next month for possession, so the detective from Dekalb and a Gwinnett county police officer will be there to greet him. :)

driver800, it was great to meet you in person, what a cool cat you are, glad you got to play the bass. We need to hang again some time soon.

... this afternoon I got the opportunity to play a clinic with one of the best drummers in the world, Jeff Sipe. Here are some pix from the clinic (hope y'all recognize the bass):

Wow, man- you got to hang and play with Apt. Q258? That's way cool!!! One of my favorites ever since A.R.U.!

ok, so driver800 emails me this afternoon and told me that he thinks he saw my stolen bass in a Craiglist ad...

I contacted the seller and traded emails with him saying that I would like to check out the bass and that I'm interested in purchasing it.

Called the detective that was assigned to the case 14 months ago and set up a time to meet the seller.

Met the seller (at his house), saw the bass... 2 minutes later the detective and his partner knock on the door and introduce themselves to the seller. After exchanging documents and explaining to the seller that I was the rightful owner of that bass, He relinquished the bass to the detective, then the detective gave the bass to me.

I'm pretty much in shock and can't believe that I got the bass back.

Thank you so much to everyone for your support after it was stolen. Once the dust settles and I sell some gear, I will happily send back the donations sent on my behalf toward the replacement bass.

Congrat Bro. God is good. this is definitely one of the best news among the TB circle for 08. Not only you reclaimed what you once lost but we see the love and brotherhood of this cross nation bass community!! Awesome:bassist::bassist:

What an amazing story!
Keep that bass forever!

Selling gear is a tough decision, but I haven't picked up any other bass since this one came home... that might be a sign. Now I need to see what I can sell, either the Nordy jV5 or the Koa SCD6... :help:

Great ending. Congratulations. Very cool, getting to play with Jeff Sipe.

On another note...did you catch yourself playing on our NAMM vid?
Sipe is the most humble and coolest cat out there today. We talked a bit about Indian music and his recent album with Matthew Garrison, which is great and I have been listening to it a bunch.

Just saw the vid on your site, I don't think that I realized I was on camera. Glad you caught it, so I can figure out that motown groove I was doing, because I totally don't remember playing it.

Remember this pic from '07 WS NAMM Bud?

Please give my best to Linny!

I got to talk to J last week on this, what a great conversation. Very uplifting! Thanks J, I needed that!

O
Olafur, it was great to talk to you as well, I couldn't stop laughing about the country gig stories after I got off the phone. I still need to send you a pic of that scuzzy country bar I played in Rome, they play both kinds: "Country and Western!"
:D
