Stoner/Doom Bassists 51: Back To The Future

I had feared at the gig that it was the speakers, but with the graphic EQ off and Volume 2 turned up to generate the equivalent volume and distortion, the noise was gone, and there's actually more low end when I do it that way (and not as much obnoxious mid as I like), so it wasn't the cab.

Plus yesterday at rehearsal and today for a bit I tried it with my little cab, and it still made the noise, though I was using a different cable. It's definitely the amp.

Bad pre amp tube?

Nick, just saw the pics of the DW 120 on Facebook. That amp is so sweet. The chassis looks to be Ampeg-based (only say this because it looks like mine on the inside). Whoever is getting this amp is stoked.

gracias. Its pretty much a Matamp GT120 electrically with a few changes here and there to my taste and liking. and oh yea that not me in the photo, its TJ the guy who built the shell for me

All went to plan today. Sold the ATK, got the kick ass $100 15" Paiste Rude hats...came home to my pedal power supply I ordered, too. :D

Got everything set up. Power supply works great. Cymbals sound ****ing awesome. Operation Gear Quest was a success!

Yes he has both DA120 #1 and #2. I will put up pics of the stereo rig. I brought it to his house on Monday, and we setup the stereo rig, wow un****ingbelievably heavy

Does any other company make custom strings aside from circle k?

nobody? this kramer is killing me with the huge strings. because the nut is so close to the tuning peg, i cant wrap the massive strings around it without snapping it (snapped 2 already, not happy about it lol). does anyone make something with a quick taper so i can avoid this? or does circle K do this? i have an email to them but i know theyre not the best with communication.

once i get the 166 gauge thing straightened out im having the nut filed down for my bigger strings. played it thru my rig tonight, was a little too bright at first, but i turned down the treble on my SVT and man did it sound awesome. definitely different than my RD but i like the tone a lot, and it has way more tonal control than the RD. i especially like the ebonite fingerboard, very smooth and snappy.

Flat rate priority envelope should be around 6 bucks, is that what Circle K charges?

Yeah it's about $6 from Washington to Iowa just checked. And bee, I don't think there are any other custom string companies like circle k, but maybe look into DR. They make some bigger strings and do custom sets. I ordered a custom set for a 5 string bass a long time ago and it didn't cost too much more then a regular set.
