Stoner/Doom Bassists 53: Loud Noises

It kills me to say I've decided to pass on Ron's Ric. Not because it isn't awesome as hell (it's in GREAT shape, he's asking a very reasonable price, and is a great, no-******** guy) but I just don't feel worthy of such a fine instrument yet (I'm pretty green with stringed instruments yet), and need to watch my finances since my wife is going back to school to get some more certifications soon. I highly recommend the beast to anyone in the market for a Ric! Check it out!

Might be getting Laz'd on a pedal...:scowl:

Going to give him a few more days before disputing the charge. Not a lot of money but still.

Hopefully he is just a lazy shipper. That's what drives me nuts, if you list something for sale, and after you are paid, ship the damn thing, the same as if you buy something online pay for it quick. I buy and sell a lot online and I pride myself on fast shipping and fast payments. They need a fvcktard button to remove the fvcktards from online sales

are GHS Boomers hands down the poopiest strings on the planet?

I got 'em since I broke a string and needed something ASAP. Only fatty mcdaddies around here were the GHS'...I've put about 10hrs on them, maybe a bit more, and my low C already sounds like a giant shvt bag. Lots of "flopping", very little tone.....

Home De pot training...fun fun fun

You know i really havent once GAS'd for a bass since getting my ric copy.

Well I killed the GAS for a music man during the amp shoot out. That was a plus side to that ordeal. I have also in recent months knocked out ever wanting a medium or short scale bass and hollow bodies. I am still gassing for a single coil p bass but that will have to wait till I can make a trip to Chicago.

Good to know. I just got a free pack of these from my guitar player (they were his backups when he was playing bass more on the regular). You think GC will do an exchange? They are unopened.

I've heard bad things about them, but figured, "hey! can't be that bad!" and I had little other choice at the time...

But honeslty, day 1 my new Peavey t40 was rad sounding with tons of clarity....day 10 and it sounds like anus....literally.

Time to go to La Bbellas....

Yes, they suck. I put them with Ernie ball strings, but at least the EB's still sound ok when they die.

I just tried them for the first time for my down tuned Jazz Bass. I was told they don't have a lot of tope end and lots of mids, which is what I want for my J. They certainly match the description. The first 3 strings are ok but the low C (.126) sounds like garbage. Really thuddy and dead. This is the last set of GHS strings I ever buy. I have tried Boomer, Brite Flats, Flats, Pressure Wounds. They all either sounded like crap or wouldn't intonate.

The La Bella Nickels are really bright, kind of boxy sounding. not sure what kind of tone you are looking for but they are pretty bright for nickels.

I am having a real hard time finding strings from my J. I like the Nickel Lo-Riders but they dont come in the gauge I need for the low tuning. Any suggestions for a warm nickel plated string that comes in a .125, .95, .70, .50? Doesn't have to come a set as long as I can buy them as singles. I'm willing to try darker sounding SS too if I have to. Tried La Bella, D'addario and Boomers so far.

Nickel rotos? I've never tried them but I have tried most other nickels. If by warm you mean easy on the highs, try Ernie balls. I like a brighter string other wise I would use them. Love the way they feel. They just die super quick.
