I get quite the opposite reaction. I'm quite the pessimist and I keep waiting for my bands to have a style intervention with me.

I'm actually quite surprised it has never happened. Despite not knowing what "cool" is, I have friends/band mates who are universally cool and yet they don't mind being around me.

I think self esteem plays in a big part in how one perceives image.

The only audition that I didn't get was when I was cocky as hell and came off like a jack ass. I deserved that. But...it could be possible that I didn't "fit in".

And I'm not saying that we don't just roll out of bed and throw on whatever t-shirt is in the closet (that's exactly what I do). I'm just saying that people do go out of their way to fit the look. I (personally) have been written off because I didn't look a certain way (punk band), didn't even play one note. That is why I am so anti genre uniform. If jeans and a t-shirt are a uniform, then I am guilty...

I mean hell, our first show, I wore my Black Flag shirt. No shame in my game. I still love punk, I just have a growing disdain for the "fans" of punk (moreso, the douchebag uniform police).

Yeah I've always been into punk and always been given sideways looks at punk shows. I think most punk scenes are waaaay to hung up on image.

First time I saw Devin Townsend Project I laughed so hard. First time I saw Devin with a shaved head since seeing him in SYL, all dressed up in a suit and I hardly recognized him. Then the rest of his band were some of the grimiest looking individuals I've ever seen.

And yeah, the Beebass Lazarus gchat arguments are usually about pointless topics limited to sports ;)

And thanks for posting the Kadavar picture. They have a new album coming out!

Haha, sounds like me a bit. I work at what you'd call a corporate place in the IT field. For the first year or so I dressed the part. Shaved, short hair, Khaki's and polos. Hated it. After I developed a reputation of being good at what I do I said f-it and just wore what I'd wear any other day. Usually dark jeans, and dark button ups with the sleeves rolled up. I grew a full beard, but not a long wizardly one, and medium length-ish hair. Co-workers at first were kind of wondering if I was "giving up". I just told them this is my life and if management wants to fire me because of the way I look, regardless of stellar performance, I'm not interested in working at such a place. It's been 5 years so far. Life's too short to be fake/uncomfortable. It's nice not having to buy two sets of clothes or change after work. :D
