I saw this show in Lakeland Florida July 13th 1991. This is the same show where Slayer recorded one of the two discs on their Decade of Aggression live album. That show was friggin crazy. My friends and I traveled from south Florida to go to the show. The closer you got to the show, the more people there were on the highway hanging out of windows and screaming "Slayer, SLAYER". But I have to agree. Great show, and for me, Anthrax layed it down. Think Slayer played first, then Anthrax, and the show closed with Megadeath. All in all, it is a crappy place to play acoustically speaking. It is a big metal box, and the bands just kept getting louder and louder. By the time Megadeath got on stage, it took me half the song to be able to hear what song they were playing.

I missed the show here in Seattle Easter weekend because I was in Florida for my brother's wedding.

Glad someone had a good time though.

Shadows Fall played next. I don't really care for them but live they were alright but they did replace HOF on the East Coast which sucks.

Then the show took a turn for the worse with Exodus.

Again Anthrax was awesome. I was trying to take pictures for my blog post and I couldn't stop head banging. So freaking catchy!

Sucks about exodus. I ended up choosing clutch and the sword over catching this tour. Missed out on HOF though...

Anthrax always puts on a solid show. Saw them a year or two ago on Halloween. Went straight there from a costume themed wedding. Got props from Scott Ian for moshing in my Michael Meyers costume. Have a vid on my fb I think...

ffffffffffuuuuuuuuuu i just listened to the radio moscow/earthless/premonition 13 LP. one of the best things i've ever bought. radio moscow was the unexpected standout for me, absolutely amazing ****, especially the track Magical Dirt. if it's not around on the interwebs i'll see if i can upload it!

I think it was on the Amoeba website for a while? I think 30 minutes of the gig were put up, alongside an interview with Al and Chris. I love that blast of Rickenfeedback at the beginning of the show.

Probably earns me major Hipster points, but I prefer old Om. Al has changed his playing style to this weird hunched position where he plucks lightly up near the 12th fret. The Amoeba show demonstrates his old technique; hitting the strings like a Djembe skin. I prefer Chris's drumming style as well. To me, their new drummer is a "better" drummer trying to ape a simpler more tribal style. I would compare this to a recording I once heard of Bill Bruford playing drums for Gong. Bruford could not groove at all (though the resulting jamming did sound like Ozric Tentacles, make of that what you will).

I gotta agree. New Om is better than no Om, and is still better than a lot of stuff out there. But the older Om stuff is just more primal or something

I agree as well. New Om is better than no Om, and better than a lot of other stuff. :D

However, bringing in the string quartet, the ethnic instruments and the "At Lebanon, Priest Ascending" lyrics makes it a bit 'Disneyland Mecca' for me, if you catch my drift. Sometimes it is hard keeping a straight face. :hiding:

It took me a long time but I slowly came around to the new sound. The only problem is I get the feeling that Al is not entirely sure where to go with it.

That was my first time seeing Anthrax. They were incredible. Probably top 10 best shows I have seen. I will have to consider if they make it in the top 5.

Oh also they played TNT and when the song first started I honestly had to ask myself if it was one of their songs (lol) because they were playing it so perfectly.

When I saw them Slayer played last. They were so loud, and the pit was just a bunch of people out for blood. They had a line of EMT's on site walking people out for gashes and concusions.

I will be honest, I have probably willingly listened to maybe 4 Anthrax songs in my life outside of that concernt. Totally not into their music. But live? man they were tight, and had HUGE energy. MEGADETH is about as tight of a band as I have ever seen. They are truly mechanical. They didnt have the feeling that Anthrax did.

The thing that Anthrax understands that so many heavy bands miss is that things sound heavier when there is contrast.

Exodus was faster, louder, and had more distorted guitars, but most of their set I just wanted them to stop. It was grating and there were no dynamics. I suppose this is the exact reason I prefer doom to metal these days. Most doom bands get tension, mood, texture, and all that stuff.
