Stoner/Doom Bassists #65: Wasted Under the Brim

Again, don't really play guitar...but I would want one setup like that. Sounds awesome.

I've got 3 guitars that are all way too nice for me to own. They were all passed down etc so I can never get rid of them. But it also clears any guitar lust I have - 67' SG, 80' LP, and one my uncle and I built to try to start a guitar business but never panned out. Plus a couple of acoustic's that I tinker with from time to time (a fender and guild 12 string)

to me its like a grip it and rip it kind of guitar, not a lot ****in around with.

haha why strange? Just curious. Id like to build 1 as my E Standard guitar, and it would be totally iommi worship. Already has a p90 in the bridge and then id remove the tone control and put a rangemaster inside the control cutout, wire the Boost control where the tone control was with a push pull switch to activate the rangemaster

Typical SG have alot more going on past the bridge. Either with the tailpiece or with knobs or switches. Removing all of that seems funny looking to me. Kind of an optical illusion seems like the bridge is too closer to the neck. Simple one pickup designs are some of my favoritea though.

yea that is simplest bridge you could do on that guitar but the regular stopbar/tailpiece could be done as well.

Nick, those kits are really really cool. I'm gonna have to save that link and try to get some guitar player I know make one haha.

yea hell yea they. Only set neck gibson kits I could think of. Like the entire wood section of an SG Jr for like $300 is killer

$299 for a body a neck ready to glue up and dressed frets isn't bad at all. Considering the amount of labor that goes into milling, shaping, routing, drilling and sanding the components, before you even get to fretwork.

Anyone know where I can find something like this: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

but completely open in the middle? I need to put some kind of pass through on my amp box because the Terror Bass has it's DI and effects loop on the right side of the amp.

Whiskerface has a terrorbass in a headbox, his just has an open window.

That's JMac4stringr on TB right? He sent me a bunch of pics, dimensions, hardware links, etc for his build. Made things really easy on me. I'd like to get a black border grommet or something to make the side hole look a little cleaner than just have a hole cut.

No idea, but his is very clean with Orange-style roundover on the front. The passthrough will be difficult with a plate that close to the end.
Who is making yours for you?

I'm building it with my brother in law, and then my buddy who builds amps at a local guitar store is going to do the tolex job.

I guess I can just drill one out as a last resort. My brother in law is so busy I try to take up as little of his time as possible, so was hoping I could just find the part I want.

I just asked this Strat/Tele bartitone replacement neck builder on ebay if he could make a Stratocaster headstock with a Telecaster heel, waiting for a reply, but I am thinking snatch up that GFS body that will take P90s or mini humbuckers and maybe stay at $300 or a little below. If I don't bond with the bartitone I can always slap a normal Fender scale back on there.

Nice Sam!

That is one of the most fun, high energy shows I had the good fortune to see. It was on the Chocolate and Cheese tour and they played in a tiny bar in Tallahassee FL. I was front and center. I had never seen them play live and had only heard mostly music from Pure Guava and Chocolate and Cheese. I was expecting to not be that impressed. I was expecting them to be smashed and not be able to pull off much in the way of music.

I was pleasantly surprised. Sure the bassist, then Andrew Weiss, of the then Rollins Band, came out with a bottle of Jose Cuervo, the drummer with a bottle of Jack, and they opened up like four+ beers for Dean on his amp... BUT! THEY WERE TIGHT!! They killed it all night just CRAZY guitar and even bass solos. I love Weiss.

Roses are free and Can't Put My Finger On It were crazy intense with extended jams that just exploded all over that stage. What a great concert.

One of my biggest regrets is never have seen Ween live. I took it for granted that they would always be around. My guitarist saw them in the early 90s, Kyuss opened for them.
