Stoner/Doom Bassists 89: Father's Missing Voodoo

I can't afford to buy any new gear right now, so it's worth it for the vicarious thrill.

Hee hee hee, I hear ya. I am all excited to put a fuzz pedal for guitar on my birthday wish list for this month. Wanting something more vintage like fuzz face-ish or tonebender-ish, Grampa Rockish. Something different than my Octavia(Octron) or my Bluebeard. The new EHX Satisfaction might do it, or even the mini silicon fuzz face, but maybe something by Noisemaker Effects, EQD, Devi, etc.

Wanted to upgrade my Verizon smart phone and of course that means the ****erz will take away my unlimited data plan. Thinking of going back to a non-smart phone, buying a Kindle or similar for wifi internet searches and email, and a cheap GPS unit for my car. Argh!

I picked up one of the ibanez bass tube screamers over the weekend. Samash was selling them for $75 on clearance. I like drive pedals so I figured it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Through my GK Combo (which I finally got dialed in to a tone I like) it sounds pretty cool. It's definitely a low gain pedal, but it's got a nice angry sounding mid bump to it.

Not sure if I'll ever use it or whatnot, but it's been fun to mess around with.

Ok looking for some input from you guys on cheap/lower powered guitar amps.

I am getting sucked in to this guitard cab project, and while I noodle on guitar, it has never been a serious interest of mine. Recently I have wanted to start picking more of it up, but have been uninspired with the tone I get through my bass amps alone.

Whats your pick out there for cheap tube amps? Epi Valve Junior, VHT special 6? I would love to find an orange TT15, but they are out of my budget for a goof around buy.

Anyone else keep pedals on their board that they never use? My Bluebeard and El Oso are still sitting on my board even though I haven't actually used them in months. I could switch to a smaller board and remove them, but why bother.

Plus, I figure whenever I get beebass's SC150, I might be able to use them again.

Someone is selling one of these local for like $160.

I wouldn't mind helping to facilitate a buy and packaging it up for shipping, if anyone here wants it.

Ooh it's an obo Corey I might pm you on that. No need but always wanted one. I'd see if he'd take $100 then go up to $125 though and see what happens. Would you want me to do my own haggling? I got to go to class in a min so we both got time to think.

So I tried your settings last night (ended up with bass at 4:00, treble at 10:00 with pres at 11:45) and HOLY ****!!! Thank you!!! It made the low mids pop out and gives a great semi vintage yet really full tone.... sooo happy right now.

nice, happy that it's working out for you. Have you figured out how your presence is wired? Is it a clean boost after the tonestack? that's what comes stock from Matamp. I had mine modded, because I really did not need any more volume, to act as a "mid shift". It basically moves the center frequency of the bax EQ. pretty cool. I think Nick does something like that with his amps sometimes.

I use everything on my board, but someitimes it's only for a few seconds. is it worth it? probably not but I always end up regret selling pedals.

You're getting the SC150? i must have missed that...

Fender Champ especially out to an extension cab. Or that Fender Excelsior with the 15 inch speaker that sounded similar to the Champ to me, they were just blowing the brown colored ones out for $200 at GC not too long ago, I think they called it the Racist Special nyuck nyuck nyuck.
I am partial to Fender blackfacish tube cleans and wasn't trying to get tube breakup from the Champ which it would do, I just liked playing it clean and how well it played with my pedals for dirt and modulation.

Depends on the set list. This saturday's show I won't be using any modulation or delay, but I still have a phaser, flanger and two delay pedals on the board.

IF we have time for an extra song I'll get to use the phaser.

...hmm maybe I'll do a swirly noise intro.

We've had one sitting in a display case here at work for a long time. I've come close to buying it a couple of times but ended up getting other stuff. Seems like a cool pedal - it's a tube screamer with 2-band EQ and a blend - should be killer.
