Stoner/Doom Bassists 89: Father's Missing Voodoo

Copy/Pasted from CL:

"There's too many Sludge bands!

Bassist available, looking to jam some fun, heavy psychedelic music. Are you a hot-sh*t lead guitarist that loves to solo for hours on end? Let's find a drummer and jam!

Influences: Kyuss, early Monster Magnet, FuManchu, Nebula, Earthless, Colour Haze, Lowrider, (Los) Natas, Yawning Man, Brant Bjork, Core, Roadsaw, the first 3 QOTSA albums, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, epic solos, swirly noises, vocal effects!

This would be a second band for me so my available time would be somewhat limited. I'm not looking to make it big or tour extensively. I'm in my early 30s with a good job - I just want to have some fun.

So cheer up sludge dude, let's jam!"

Earthless is a great keyword thing, I've only ever known awesome dudes who know who they are. That band alone is how VEGA met.

Ok looking for some input from you guys on cheap/lower powered guitar amps.

I am getting sucked in to this guitard cab project, and while I noodle on guitar, it has never been a serious interest of mine. Recently I have wanted to start picking more of it up, but have been uninspired with the tone I get through my bass amps alone.

Whats your pick out there for cheap tube amps? Epi Valve Junior, VHT special 6? I would love to find an orange TT15, but they are out of my budget for a goof around buy.

Loved my Valve Junior enough to buy anothe bigger tube amp in less than a week. Its pretty good for bedroom practicing. I got the hot rod version with the added gain and reverb. It can also function as a reverb tank which is pretty f'n cool because there's a lot of heavy verb in that little thing.

Anyone here heard of Blank Face Records? I guess they're a label, and they seem to be based out of Chicago (?)

Anyway, they reached out to us via Facebook and say that they want to put out a release with us. EP, Full-length, whatever. On the face of it this is great news, but it brings up a whole host of questions.

First - Anyone here heard anything good or bad about these guys?

Second - what kind of questions do we need to be asking this label?

No band that I've been in has ever had anything released on any label whatsoever, so this is all new to me. We're just about done mixing/mastering our demo/first album - obviously some help with pressing costs would be killer, as would any extra promotion that the label could provide, I just don't want to get screwed and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Help?

EDIT: I'll add that I recognize a couple of bands on their roster - one is more local to WI and the other tours nationally.

Congrats man! That's actually what that important band meeting VEGA had last week was about. Were getting on a small label thats in the process of start up and its run by someone local you know...well be one of the first bands on it, and so far theyve recruited some killer bands to be on it.

So instead of a bass, I bought my guitarists Windsor halfstack for $300. Went from 5 tubez watts to 100 tubez watts in a week. Yeah. Actually sounds great for bass, like a Ric through a marshall. Ive been loving my valve junior, that EL84 crunch, thought why not get more of them. Again TUBEZZZZZZZZZZZ. I'm gonna paint the white, black or make a metal grill for it. And put a big old pointy Peavey logo on it me thinks.

nice. im also using a peavey guitar amp but got the ValveKing since I prefer 6L6 tubes. there is a forum for modding the VK such as a Mesa mod but they are for the gain channel. I only use the clean channel and it sounds great to me as is. only thing I did take from the forum was the dummy jack in the input 1 trick. amazingly it really makes a big difference
