I'm starting to like those Carvin SB4000s more and more
They improved so much on the Jazz bass, I personally feel it should be the new basis of comparison for sub $1,000 instruments. Of course, you can build them to be more expensive than that. YMMV, IMO, blah, blah, blah.

Fantastic basses. I had one for a while. It was gorgeous, although I did end up selling it...
...I just didn't play it after getting my Carvin BB76. Hated to have a bass like that just sit around. Dude that bought it from me told me about 2 months ago that it was originally Sekou Bunch's actual bass, and was featured in an ad.

-Matamp/Orange styling
-Metal hardware
-Rear loaded
Basic cabs are probably gonna be Black basket weave with Sunn style grill cloth or Ampeg
Colored tolex is probably gonna have black grill cloth.

You guys ever have one of those days where everything just clicks and you're really freaking happy about how everything with your rig is playing and sounding? Yesterday I went to the space by myself to play with that Rat Tail. Ending up changing up my amp EQ and adjusting my pedals a bit. Running the El Oso with the Bluebeard as both "always on" pedals now, except for when I need to get a little quiet/clean/not so heavy. Also dialed out a little bit of the mid range Ric honk, and tightened up my low end a bit. Now I have really nice mix-cutting mids and highs and lots of massive low end.
Add that to my guitarist getting his Roccaforte amp today and bringing it to practice, and our live band mix sounded incredible. That amp is pretty awesome. Sounds a lot better than the Marshall Plexi he was using.

I played it through my new carvin and it was dead quiet, click on the el oso, immediate I assume cycle 60 hum. Any twiddling of the gain or level past zero and immediate consistent hmmmmmmmm

Nice! You play drums too? I miss that a lot. I need to get into a position where I can drag my set out again and rock! At the moment, I can't justify spending another $300 a month on a place to jam. Don Bennett Drum Studio is awesome. I got a killer Zildjian 20" Medium thin Constantinople Crash from them a few years back. That thing owns. Such great power and dark tones. I can't hang around that place too much. I want to buy expensive snares and other things I can't even play now.
Yeah, American Music is still my favorite Seattle Bass store. They have a good cross section of the things I like. But you should at least check out Bass Northwest. They have a ton of nice amps and cabs, not to mention basses that cost more than my truck. Those high-end basses are not really my thing, at least not now. Which is convenient for my back account. Its just that sometimes there is a weird vibe in there that can make it a little less fun.
Yessir. Had a few sets over the last 4 or 5 years. My current set is a Fibes Clear Acrylic Crystalite 22/16/12 with a 14x5" Mapex Black Panther hand hammered steel snare

Cymbals are all Sabian; 15" AAXcelerators, 17" AA Med thin crash, 18" AA Rock Crash, 21" AAX raw bell dry ride. There's a 20" Paiste Sound Reflector China in the pic, but it's not mine haha. Great set up. Loud as hell.
