Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 82: Comfortable with Derision

How the hell do you kill an LF speaker?! Those things take severe punishment without a sweat!

Eh, I killed one by My own dumbass mistake :o(wasn't totally killed, but has a very distinct rattle). I hit it with a 2000 watt power amp bridged, preamp cranked/ weird feed back mishap, because I wasn't paying close enough attention what the fvck I was doing, when firing everything up for the first time (alot of hands in sh1t, head under the hood hooking everything up). Made a very loud "Kick drum" sounding thunk and the cab jumped off the ground a bit. All said, one of those $200 lesson learned mistakes. :bawl:

Welcome back, that dude go back to Florida?

Hey guys. Been busy and pretty absent lately from a lot of things. So yeah, our musician friend/house guest/stoner friend went back home to the land of alligators and giant mosquitoes. We recorded a quick single with crap vocals from our crappier vocalist (me) and we tried to press on with a fill in. Things didn't last long and he brought a bunch of ridiculous drama so I had to kick him out which sucked.

Spent the past few months hardcore playing online video games and I think I'm ready to start up my wife and I's band again. I have a Christmas list full of boutique goodies and Santa apparently doesn't know me well enough to say no so... yay.

Hope everyone's doing well.. not sure what we're doing yet might move back to Florida or just stick it out in PA for a while. Been trying to figure that out too. I missed a bunch of threads and hopefully a few Lazzings if dunwich didn't let us down.

I got my pedal board re-organized to fit the Bazz Fuzz last night. With some creative placement I was able to fit it and the BBM on there, so the Bazz hasn't banished the BBM yet. They're really, really different pedals. The Bazz sounds better in pretty much every way, so I could live without the muff but since there was room I figured what the hell and left both on.

I think I'm going to try feeding the muff a low-gain signal from either the Bazz or the PD7, with the muff in blend mode. That way I can dial in a little bit of fuzz over a light OD type signal. Might be interesting, might sound like ****. But it'll be fun to experiment.

Oh...THAT will do it.

Lol, it looks to me to be a Matsumoku factory Vantage, Westone, Electra etc. And the pickups look like the old Dimarzios. They have the title as A-Lamb-Bick and they actually have it listed as an Alembic in the info section. I asked them to send me a pic of the headstock, just curious now lol.

It's definitely one of those Matsumoku factory type basses, not Alembic. Just seems ridiculous, maybe someone put a fake decal or something on the headstock and that's why they're not showing it.

Yeah, would be a shame if they messed up the headstock, as the body looks in great shape. Actually $199 is cheaper than most of the Mastumoku stuff I have seen lately. Some clambake probably dicked up a nice vintage MIJ bass.

I mentioned the taking a friend to rehab story, it's actually a lot more intense and horrible than I let on I just happened to end it in victory, but the past 6 days have been snowed in with final delays and watching over a suicidal withdrawing person that actually made an attempt in my place and I thought they died...

I'm about to start my exams and I'm studying furiously but I did just spend nearly a week in the darkest areas of life saving a person in the worst winter storm to hit in years so should I tell my professor to try and get some slack? My heads still not really in a place to focus on finals as I just had to do things and see things I never expected to in my life.

Good on you for helping your friend. Not sure about the finals as my professor's always felt they were the center of the universe.

Thanks... Dr. Phil graduated from my school and I can't help but think I just kicked his ass at his job.

I also saved a dude who went into a 24 hour panic episode after eating a massive pot infused baked good a couple weeks ago. So if anyone ever needs someone cool under all forms of pressure to save them, it's me. Kinda funny both these people are like 27 and 30, and I just turned 23...

Never ever hurts to ask, might as well.

I've gone through similar things, it's not easy to deal with and in the end only the person with the problem can decide if they're going to get better. I hope it works out for you and your friend. That stuff is never easy.

As far as the professor is concerned, I wouldn't mention what's been going on. If it's someone you're friendly with and want to mention what's been going on as a separate conversation, then ok.

But I wouldn't bring it up in the context of exams. For one thing, there may not be much he can do in the way of cutting you slack. Second, if he's going to be preparing you for real life/ a career, he's going to tell you that life isn't fair and important **** happens at the worst possible time. Your future employers aren't going to give two ***** what you've been doing in your off time, you still need to show up and work no matter what.

So just study as much as you can, then go in and take your exam. Asking for leeway or special consideration is going to get you nowhere in school or in a career. Remember there's always someone who's dealing with more **** than you are, and that person's going to show up and do what needs to be done, most likely without asking for special consideration.

Not trying to be cynical or a dick here, I've been in your situation and frankly you remind me of myself at that age. So do what you want with this advice, but I can tell you that in a career, most people won't care what you've got going on in your personal life, they'll just expect you to show up and do the job.

I have no idea really. I bought a 1000 watt Hartke LH1000 from a pawn shop a couple weeks ago, and it swiftly burnt the voice coil out of the end-of-the-daisy-chain cab driver.

I did some research and asked around TB, alot of people thought that since only 1 driver blew and it was the end of the chain, it must have been an issue with the cab, either a lemon speaker or a bad crossover.

Despite the fact that my fEARful stack performed just fine for a year, I figured they were right and proceeded to run the same Hartke amp into my 2x15.... within half an hour, burning speaker.

Anyone here have any clue what could go wrong in an amplifier to do this???? The bastard amp still turns on and plays fine at low volume, as soon as you turn it up to playing levels it burns speakers like this thread burns trees. What sucks is even if I take it to a tech, theres no way to verify they fixed it (or did anything really) except to plug it into another cab and hope it doesnt end in smoke.

Damn!! I was youtubing my way through a list of Stoner Doom bands from one of these threads and now I can't find that thread.....
Anyone know which one of the thousand posts has that list? I was listening to Asteroid and totally lost it.

Very true I'll stay silent.

And I really hope it does work out. I'm leaving the state for the month Thursday so I'll see when I get back how things have gone and if they do what's right by them. I'm hoping once the medications they fell off get back to level and detoxed from the booze that was used to forget and stave off the withdrawals of said medication is ok they'll be balanced enough I don't feel I need to watch them like a hawk.

I did like I said give them the ultimatum of one help and one friendship so I cut ties if they fail. If all is ok, I found a free bike to help them develop a sense of independence and a way too get to all the AA meetings etc one needs to attend to get back in the game and also get them able to look for employment and out of the house and their mind.

Still the hardest part was reading the note they scrawled for me that I didn't find til after... It was quite obvious I was the only person in their life at the moment because it only referred to me.

Before taking it to a tech I'd contact Samson. Go here:

https://www.samsontech.com/contact/#contact-form

Fill out the form and wait for them to contact you. This could be a known issue or at the very least someone familiar with the amp could give you an idea where to start looking for problems, and/or recommend a tech that can help. I wouldn't just take it to random tech guy and hope for the best.
