Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 82: Comfortable with Derision

Anybody tried those Gibson EB basses? Saw one on a rack yesterday at my local store but didn't get a chance to muck around with it. The sales dude kept throwing the phrase "real rock bass" at me (about ten times actually) but I'm not ready to take his word for it entirely...mostly because the kid's eyes were as red as the devil's dick.

It definitely looked like a solid bass from afar, though. I'll admit, I've never been a fan of Gibson basses but for around $1,300 AUD it might sway my opinion on them. Wanna give it a crack sometime next week but thought I'd check in here on the word.

Tried one a few months back...I remember liking it quite a bit. 'Real rock bass?' Not sure what means

Your guess is as good as mine, mate. Kid was two cones shy of becoming a vegetable when I spoke to him haha.

Just read up a bit on it. The coil-tapping feature sounds pretty nifty. All-passive too which is a plus. Can't find any videos of anyone really digging into it, though. Might drag my pedalboard with me next time I'm in town and give this thing a go with everything hooked up.

Looks like as long as everything lines up we'll be playing with Whores in March. Pretty rad.

Nobody's gonna take that?

-You guys getting a group rate?
-The band that runs a train together stays together?
-They prefer the term "sexually liberated".
-No kissing on the lips.
-Avoid eye contact and physical contact with band mates. High fives are the exception.

He literally is a John too yea? And his small stone didn't phase her

Hope you use protection, and check under hood first for trannies.

Damn!! I was youtubing my way through a list of Stoner Doom bands from one of these threads and now I can't find that thread.....
Anyone know which one of the thousand posts has that list? I was listening to Asteroid and totally lost it.

No clue where in Stoner Thread Land that list is but:
Youtube Stoner Meadow of Doom, he or she has tons of vids of great bands.
Next go to bandcamp and type in All Them Witches then look at their genre tags, desert rock pulls up lotsI of pages of bands.
Lots of discoveries to keep you busy between those two searches and haunting here.

I plugged my new Chris Aiken p bass in, wow I haven't used new rounds on a full scale in a while, holy sheet that's twangy. No time to really touch it yet I will after finals tomorrow.

The cold weather and cold hearts of the fedex company seem to have not touched the bass and it's perfectly setup it seems in standard at least. I made a point to call sweetwater and get a guy on the phone and told him I'd always buy from him and do his sales surveys if he helped me out and now that it came in cheap and perfect I'm definitely using them again for the bass vi and other stuff I need.

The friend I got to rehab has appreciative friends and family as a relation of theirs just gave me $500 this evening for my troubles so hell yes for doing the right thing.

Picked this up at chapters last night.
Kind of interesting.
Has a cool section on building you own board.

Good news! Spend it foolishly!

I will but on amps and stuff, because extreme foolishness would send me to rehab too lol.

In other news this dude I met last fall always pointed out random girls around the campus and just said "I did her" casually, well after several I noticed discrepancies and he also introduced me to a girl and I became friends with her, but he said the same thing about her and I never mentioned it.

Well last night she was like he invited me to be his roommate, I'd save money and when he's not around I'd take care of his dogs and such it'd be fun!!

So I had to ask if what he said was true and essentially turn out he's an incredibly ugly manwhore who lies cheats and says creepy **** and she fell for it and he made it out to be just a failed relationship, so I had to let her know he was a **** stain.... Well she actually was ok with it and I think I saved her from some terrible times.

Also I told her it sounded like you'd be your exes maid who pays rent.

Hey Toast-
Talked to my boss about your amp yesterday. He said there's a few things that could be wrong with it that would cause it to burn drivers.

There may be DC coming off the speaker output, you can test for this with a multimeter set to Volts. Turn the amp on, and test the bridged speaker output, if you see DC voltage, it could be a bad output capacitor that hasn't completely failed yet.

The other possible problem could be parasitic oscillation at super sonic frequencies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitic_oscillation

Which is most likely caused by a ground and/or power supply issue. If you have access to an oscilloscope you can test for it. Any tech would be able to easily check for this as well. Hope that helps!

Morning gents. I had the stomach flu yesterday and ended up praying to the porcelain god most of the day. But, it's above freezing outside (I think) so that's a plus. Last two final exams today, too.

Going to the Stone Temple Pilots show tonight. Chester Bennington is handling vocals, so that should be interesting. I grew up with my dad playing STP is his normal rotation. An odd thing, I suppose. Not very heavy music, but I'm a sucker for a lot of the 90's rock.
